Southern Florida’s Atlantic coast holds two very different moods. Miami is energetic and Latin-inflected: the beaches of Miami Beach, the Art Deco district of South Beach, the galleries and boutiques of the Design District and a lively restaurant scene. Palm Beach, further north on a slender barrier island, is quiet and discreet, with historic mansions, manicured gardens and the shops of Worth Avenue.

The best months are November to April, when it is warm, dry and sunny; summer is hot and humid, and the hurricane season runs from June to November. Florida suits those after winter sun on the beach, lovers of art and food, and families with children; the two are easily combined in one trip.
