South Australia
South Australia pairs wine with wildlife. An hour’s drive north-east of Adelaide, the Barossa Valley is one of the country’s oldest wine regions, known for rich shiraz, family-run cellar doors and the German heritage of its first settlers. Kangaroo Island, south-west of Adelaide, is a place of rugged coastline and national parks, where kangaroos, koalas, sea lions and echidnas are seen in the wild. The region is at its best from October to April, with the grape harvest falling between February and April.
