New South Wales
Sydney is the gateway to New South Wales, and less than two hours’ flight away, in the Tasman Sea, lies Lord Howe Island, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Two basalt peaks rise above it, the world’s southernmost coral reef shelters its lagoon, and only a few hundred visitors may stay on the island at any one time. Days are spent cycling, snorkelling among fish and corals, climbing to the summits and watching seabirds. The island is at its best from September to May.
