The Ritz London

About this hotel

General information

The Ritz London opened in 1906 on Piccadilly, beside Green Park and within reach of the shops of Bond Street and Oxford Street. The British royal family has long held official receptions in its rooms, and the hotel was the first to receive a Royal Warrant from the Prince of Wales for banqueting and events.

The centrepiece of its dining is The Ritz Restaurant, holder of two Michelin stars; there is also The Rivoli Bar, The Secret Garden and a cigar shop with its own lounge, while the celebrated afternoon tea is served next door in William Kent House, an 18th-century mansion. Personal butlers look after guests, and the hotel’s own chauffeur-driven Rolls-Royce Phantom is on hand for journeys around town. For afternoon tea and for lunch and dinner in The Ritz Restaurant gentlemen wear a jacket and tie and jeans are not permitted; sportswear is not allowed in any restaurant or bar.

Location

The hotel is at the heart of the West End, in St James’s, on Piccadilly and close to Bond Street and Oxford Street. Heathrow airport is 29 km away, Gatwick 55 km and Waterloo station 1.8 km.

Sports & leisure

Green Park begins at the door, and a walk across it leads to Buckingham Palace, while the Royal Academy of Arts is a few steps along Piccadilly. Butlers and the concierge put together personal itineraries, secure theatre tickets and help with shopping, and the hotel’s chauffeur-driven Rolls-Royce Phantom is available for city journeys and airport transfers.

For children

Children up to the age of 15 belong to the kidz@theritz club, with welcome gifts, children’s toiletries, robes and slippers, games consoles in the room on request and complimentary ice cream with afternoon tea or with lunch and dinner in The Ritz Restaurant. The restaurant has children’s menus, there is a children’s afternoon tea, cots are provided free of charge and babysitting can be arranged through the concierge.

Restaurants & bars

Dining is resolutely classic, the house Champagne, Réserve Ritz, is made for the hotel by Barons de Rothschild, and room service runs around the clock.

  • The Ritz Restaurant — two Michelin stars and contemporary British cooking from seasonal produce by chef John Williams, in a mirrored, chandeliered room beneath a glass roof; five- and seven-course tasting menus, and dinner with live music and dancing every Friday and Saturday
  • Afternoon Tea — the famous tea in William Kent House with live music: sandwiches, scones with Cornish clotted cream, pastries, cakes from the trolley and 20 loose-leaf teas, including the exclusive Ritz Royal Blend
  • The Rivoli Bar — an intimate cocktail bar with a chequerboard marble floor and gilded vaulted ceilings, serving signature and classic cocktails, Champagne, caviar and light dishes
  • The Secret Garden — an open-air garden with a Mediterranean menu, seafood, caviar and cocktails, and live music in season
  • The Cigar Shop — a cigar shop and lounge with a walk-in humidor and private lockers, plus whisky and cognac
