About this hotel
General information
The Lanesborough presides over Hyde Park Corner from a Grade II* listed Regency building. The house was built in 1719 for James Lane, second Viscount Lanesborough, later became the original St George’s Hospital and was remodelled by William Wilkins in the Greek revival style. It opened as a hotel on 30 December 1991, was fully restored between 2013 and 2015 to designs by Alberto Pinto’s studio, and has since been part of Oetker Hotels.
More than 300 craftspeople – embroiderers, gilders, cabinetmakers, plasterers and painters – worked on the interiors, where walls and ceilings are hand-painted and some 2,000 artworks dating from before the 1830s hang throughout. There are 93 rooms and suites, each looked after by a dedicated butler around the clock, and a concierge team made up of Les Clefs d’Or members. Several restaurants and bars, a private club and spa and eight meeting rooms complete the house.
Location
The hotel sits at Hyde Park Corner in Knightsbridge, across the road from Hyde Park and beside Wellington Arch. Hyde Park Corner Underground station, on the Piccadilly line, is next door and runs directly to Heathrow in about an hour; Victoria station is 15 minutes on foot or five by car, with trains to Gatwick taking around 45 minutes. Chauffeured cars can be arranged through the concierge.
Spa
The Lanesborough Club & Spa is a private health club below ground, free for hotel guests to use. It has a hydrotherapy pool with massage jets, separate saunas and steam rooms for men and women, an expansive gym, The Painting Room for nails and its own restaurant, with a hair salon in the hotel by appointment. Signature treatments use Ground Wellbeing and Royal Fern, and the club works with aestheticians and an osteopath.
Sports & leisure
Guests have complimentary use of the gym, daily fitness classes and the pool at The Lanesborough Club & Spa, with personal trainers on request. Across the road in Hyde Park there is riding with an instructor, or a horse-drawn carriage ride to Buckingham Palace. The hotel hosts monthly cigar masterclasses, wine dinners and tastings led by the head sommelier and live music, and the concierges plan tailored itineraries across London.
For children
The Little VIP Club, for children up to 16, runs a Little Butler Bootcamp (from age three), mocktail lessons, riding in Hyde Park, in-room treasure hunts and splash hours in the spa pool. Young guests receive a personalised wallet with treats in the restaurants and bars, London-themed bed linen from The White Company and mini manicures in The Painting Room; The Lanesborough Grill serves a children’s afternoon tea, and the concierge can arrange babysitting.
