About this hotel
General information
The hotel stands in St Andrews directly above the famous 17th Road Hole of the Old Course, where the links meet the sea. Owned by the American company Kohler, it pairs the traditions of the home of golf with modern comfort: its 175 rooms and suites combine classic style with contemporary touches, and many look over the course and West Sands beach.
The Kohler Waters Spa is built around contrast therapy, with a sauna, cold plunge, the UK’s first Espuro foam steam room and a snow cabin. On the fourth floor are the Road Hole Restaurant, Swilcan Loft and the Road Hole Bar with more than 250 whiskies, while the Jigger Inn pub occupies a building from the 1850s. It suits travellers who want golf, spa time and an unhurried stay on the Fife coast.
Location
The hotel is in St Andrews, Fife, overlooking the 17th hole of the Old Course, a five-minute walk from the town centre and close to West Sands beach. Leuchars railway station is four miles away, Edinburgh an hour’s drive and Glasgow an hour and a half.
Spa
The Kohler Waters Spa has a 20-metre pool and a hydrotherapy suite with a thermal pool, sauna, Espuro foam steam room and cold plunge, plus a snow and sauna cabin booked separately. The menu covers personalised facials, massages and rituals, with a relaxation room and a Spa Café where guests dine in their robes. The spa is open to guests aged 16 and over.
Sports & leisure
The Old Course, run by the Links Trust, lies right beside the hotel, with Kingsbarns, the Castle Course, the New, the Eden, the Jubilee, the Craigtoun Course and Dumbarnie all close by; the team arranges tee times and transfers. The Kohler Waters Fitness centre has a 20-metre lap pool, hot tub, sauna, Technogym equipment and classes. Other pursuits include horse riding, land yachting, kayaking and paddleboarding on West Sands, mountain bikes, gin and whisky distillery visits, birds of prey and clay shooting.
For children
Families can take rooms with two double beds; young guests find their own robe and slippers and a welcome gift, and bedtime milk, cookies and library books can be sent to the room. There is a children’s afternoon tea and a kids’ menu at Hams Hame; under-16s use the fitness centre pool with an adult.
