About this hotel
General information
Opened in 2001, this stone-built resort sits above the rugged cliffs of the North Sea coast and blends naturally into its 208-hectare estate. It looks across to the ancient town of St Andrews, a thousand years old and the home of golf, and beyond the Tay estuary to the peaks of the Grampian Mountains. Its two championship golf courses, The Torrance and The Kittocks, are the resort’s great pride.
Interiors are in warm earth tones with touches of tartan, while wide windows frame the fairways, meadows and sea. Besides the spa there are the La Cucina and St Andrews Bay Clubhouse – Grill restaurants, the Kittocks Den and Zephyr bars, the Atrium Lounge, a business centre and shops. Meeting and event spaces total 1,395 m², the largest being the 575 m² Robert Burns Room, and the hotel helps plan weddings.
Location
The resort lies on Scotland’s east coast in Fife, 3 km from the centre of St Andrews, about an hour’s drive from Edinburgh International Airport and two hours from Glasgow.
Spa
The Fairmont Spa has ten Scottish-themed treatment rooms, including a couples’ suite, and relaxation lounges for before and after treatments. Facials, body treatments and massages use Skin Rocks, ESPA and ishga, made with Hebridean seaweed. Facilities include a 16-metre pool, spa pool, aromatherapy steam room, sauna, experience shower and a Technogym fitness studio.
Sports & leisure
Golf comes first, on the championship Torrance and Kittocks courses, both hosts of Open Championship Final Qualifying, with lessons from PGA professionals. The grounds have footgolf and giant chess, and Zephyr Sports Bar has pool, table football, darts and a sports simulator. The concierge lends Hunter wellies for the Fife Coastal Path and arranges whisky distillery tours.
For children
A kids’ games room with Xbox consoles, air hockey, a climbing frame and a big screen for films, with footgolf and giant chess outdoors. Suites have a sofa bed for up to two young children.
Restaurants & bars
The resort’s restaurants and bars:
- La Cucina — Mediterranean cooking with a contemporary twist in a relaxed setting
- St Andrews Bay Clubhouse – Grill — on the clifftop overlooking both courses and the bay, with a seafood bar serving fresh lobster and a Josper grill for Scottish steaks
- Squire — hearty Scottish breakfasts, named after the golfer Gene Sarazen, known as The Squire
- Kittocks Den — a bar with a collection of Scottish spirits, rare single malts, cocktails and light dishes
