45 Park Lane

About this hotel

General information

45 Park Lane occupies an early-1960s building by Walter Gropius, founder of the Bauhaus, on Park Lane in Mayfair, directly opposite Hyde Park. Dorchester Collection acquired it in 2010 and asked architect and designer Thierry Despont to turn it into a hotel; he wrapped the façade in horizontal aluminium fins and gave the interiors a warm Art Deco character. The hotel opened in September 2011 with 35 rooms and 11 suites, every one of them facing the park, and it feels more like a private residence than a grand hotel.

Art is central to its identity: works by Damien Hirst, Sir Peter Blake, Joe Tilson, Christian Furr and other British artists hang in the public spaces and in every room, with changing exhibitions chosen by curator Lily Ackerman. Dining revolves around Wolfgang Puck’s CUT and the Michelin-starred Sushi Kanesaka, while below ground a spa of around 930 m² holds Park Lane’s longest swimming pool. Every guest is looked after by a personal butler.

Location

The hotel stands on Park Lane in Mayfair, facing Hyde Park, a three-minute walk away, and close to Buckingham Palace, Wellington Arch, the Royal Academy of Arts, Marble Arch and the main shopping streets. Heathrow is 30–45 minutes by car and London City Airport about 45 minutes. Airport transfers are arranged on request, and suite stays include a return transfer from a London airport or railway station.

Spa

The subterranean spa is open daily from 8am to 8pm, exclusively to hotel guests and residents of Mayfair Park Residences. It has a heated pool set against a Venetian floral mosaic, a hydro pool, sauna, steam room, relaxation room and treatment rooms. Treatments use La Prairie products, including the Skin Caviar line, alongside advanced facials by skincare specialist Dr Uliana Gout and Carol Joy London haircare.

Sports & leisure

The gym has 25 pieces of Technogym equipment and a wide range of free weights, and private training by Intelligent Design combines strength work, calisthenics and Pilates. Swimmers have Park Lane’s longest pool. The hotel also runs a bespoke art tour, Hepworth — Rhythm & Form, on Barbara Hepworth and the Hampstead Modernists, and its guest experience team helps plan time in London.

For children

Cots are provided on request and extra beds can be added for children under 13. Children swim at dedicated times (9.30–11am and 4–6pm) with an adult, and the gym is open from the age of 16. BAR 45 is adults-only after 6pm, and Sushi Kanesaka is considered suitable from 12 years.

Restaurants & bars

Two restaurants and a bar:

  • CUT at 45 Park Lane — Wolfgang Puck’s only London restaurant, a modern American steakhouse with Wagyu, USDA Prime and grass-fed Hereford beef, seasonal salads and white truffle pappardelle, Damien Hirst’s Diamond Dust Psalms on the walls and Hyde Park beyond the windows; breakfast, lunch, dinner and a terrace
  • Sushi Kanesaka — Tokyo chef Shinji Kanesaka’s first European restaurant, holding a Michelin star: Edomae sushi served omakase at a counter carved from a single piece of hinoki, with two dinner sittings Tuesday to Saturday
  • BAR 45 — cocktails, a signature Negroni trolley and small plates such as Wagyu sliders and Dorset crab rolls, with a wine list of more than 600 labels

CUT also caters private events.

Pets

Up to two small dogs (under 7 kg) are welcome per room, with a bowl, bed and treats provided. Dogs stay in the room while their owners visit the bar or restaurants.
