About this hotel
General information
One&Only Cape Town is a city resort on the V&A Waterfront that pairs the bustle of a working harbour with the calm of an island retreat. It is split between two settings: the seven-storey Marina Rise, facing the marina and Table Mountain, and a private island ringed by quiet waterways, home to the island rooms, the pool and the spa.
Its rooms and suites are among the most generous in Cape Town, with bold colour, carved screens and local touches — tiger’s eye motifs for strength and prosperity, traditional dolls standing in as do-not-disturb signs. The resort is known for its dining, including the only Nobu in Southern Africa, and for the wine collection of The Wine Loft. With the neighbouring Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation it supports a programme that rescues and rehabilitates sea turtles.
Location
The resort sits on Dock Road at the V&A Waterfront in central Cape Town, overlooking the yacht marina with Table Mountain as a backdrop; the Two Oceans Aquarium is next door. The hotel team arranges airport transfers in cars from its own fleet.
Spa
One&Only Spa occupies its own island among the resort’s waterways, its interiors drawn from the southern night sky in blue-grey tones, cloud-veined marble and starlike lighting. There is a hydrothermal area (from 16; treatments from 12) and a quiet Spa Garden by the water. Signature rituals include Essence of One&Only Cape Town, with a sea-salt scrub and kelp wrap; Table Mountain Tonic, built around a warm poultice massage; and African Journey, combining a rooibos and rock-salt scrub, a rungu-stick massage and a tea ceremony. Facials use ESPA, full-moon rituals with sound bowls and meditation run every month, and a PEDI:MANI:CURE studio handles hands and feet.
Sports & leisure
The fitness centre is open around the clock, with personal training in strength, boxing and Pilates, group classes and yoga at sunrise or sundown. The fitness team plans hikes on Table Mountain and Lion’s Head and can set up private yoga on top of Table Mountain. Further afield, the resort offers:
- whale watching at sea and stand-up paddleboarding on the resort’s waterways
- a 90-minute behind-the-scenes turtle rescue session at the Two Oceans Aquarium
- a visit to the African penguin colony at Boulders Beach
- dives into the Atlantic kelp forests
- private wine tastings and blending masterclasses, a sushi class with the Nobu team and a farmers’ market tour followed by a dinner
For children
Children have the KidsOnly club, with room to play and make things in the company of the resort’s penguin mascot, Waddles. The fitness team also runs sports sessions and active games for young guests.
Restaurants & bars
Dining ranges from Japanese-Peruvian cooking to a South African grill and a seasonal poolside restaurant:
- Nobu Cape Town — Japanese cuisine with Peruvian accents, an omakase tasting menu and weekend lunches
- ROOI — a South African grill room cooking beef, venison and seafood over open flames in the braai tradition; breakfast is served here too
- Isola — a seasonal poolside restaurant with Mediterranean and Capetonian plates and waterside cabanas
- Vista Bar & Lounge — the resort’s social hub facing Table Mountain, with all-day light dining, afternoon tea and cocktails inspired by the Xhosa legend of the Watchers
- The Wine Loft — a three-level wine room with a broad South African collection, tastings and private dinners (18 and over)
The Tasting Table and the Private Dining Room host private dinners, and the suites can be set up for in-suite dining.
Swimming
The resort’s island holds the largest freeform infinity pool in the Southern Hemisphere, heated in season and fringed with palms and cabanas, with Isola restaurant at its edge.
