About this hotel
General information
Söl’ring Hof is a small five-star hotel under a thatched roof, set directly on the dune at Rantum, one of the quietest corners of Sylt. With only 15 rooms, maisonettes and suites, the house its hosts describe as a country house by the sea feels more like a private home than a hotel. It belongs to the Hommage Luxury Hotels Collection.
Interiors take a modern Frisian line with Nordic restraint — dark woods, pale fabrics, warm lighting and very little ornament — and every room is named after a figure from the island’s history and folklore, from the merman Ekke Nekkepenn to the painter Andreas Dirks. The real draw is the kitchen: the hotel’s gourmet restaurant, with its open kitchen, has a reputation well beyond Sylt, and the wine cellar holds more than a thousand references. In the quieter months the whole hotel can be taken over exclusively for a private celebration or meeting.
Location
The hotel stands at Am Sandwall 1 in Rantum on Sylt, between the North Sea to the west and the Wadden Sea — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — to the east. Windows look out over the dunes, the surf or the tidal flats, and the beach begins at the foot of the dune. Guests are collected from the airport or the railway station, and parking is provided.
Spa
A small spa area on the dune is designed for quiet downtime, with a Finnish sauna, a relaxation room and a fitness room. Massages and beauty treatments are available on request, and use of the spa is included for all hotel guests.
Sports & leisure
The island is best explored on foot and by bike: the hotel suggests walks along the beach and across the tidal flats, e-bike rides across the island and rounds on the island’s golf courses, and there is a fitness room in the house. The culinary programme is a reason to come in itself — cooking courses in the restaurant kitchen devoted to fish, seafood, game or truffles, excursions to the salt marshes, the herb garden and the oyster beds on the Wadden Sea side, and private wine and port tastings with the hotel’s sommelière.
Restaurants & bars
Breakfast has no fixed end time and is served all day, included in every stay; in the evening the choice is between a gourmet dinner and a more relaxed table.
- Gourmet restaurant — Nordic tasting menu built on North Sea seafood, local fish and island produce, served from an open kitchen with a long pass and finished with a cheese trolley; dinner Tuesday to Saturday from 18:30
- Living Room — easy-going restaurant in the hotel’s sitting room with house classics, daily specials and a communal table; lunch on Sunday and Monday from 13:00, dinner daily from 18:30
- Wine cellar and wine bar — more than a thousand references from German Riesling to Burgundy Chardonnay, Bordeaux reds and Champagne, plus over 150 vintages of port and Madeira
Swimming
There is no pool — the North Sea is the point. A wide sandy beach starts at the foot of the dune with the hotel’s own access, and each guest has a private beach chair (Strandkorb) waiting on the western side of the house.
