Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Hamburg

About this hotel

General information

Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Hamburg is a grand hotel on the western shore of the Inner Alster, right at the heart of the city. Its long façade beneath a green copper roof, with a continuous upper-floor balcony facing the water, has long been part of Hamburg’s skyline, and since the late 19th century the house has kept to one simple principle: service above all. It is a founding member of the Selection of German Luxury Hotels.

There are 156 rooms and suites, each furnished individually, where historic paintings and pieces made specially for the hotel meet soft accents of gold, kiwi, dusty blue, brick red and lilac. A dedicated guest-relations team looks after every stay, and butlers are available on request. Dining ranges from the gourmet restaurant Haerlin and the Japanese-Peruvian NIKKEI NINE to the Art Deco GRILL, Café Condi, the Wohnhalle lounge and the city’s smallest bar. On the fifth floor a spa of almost 1,000 m² opens onto a roof terrace, and below the level of the Alster lies a 500 m² wine cellar.

Location

The hotel stands on Neuer Jungfernstieg, directly on the Inner Alster, where the lake’s steamboat tours set off from in front of the door. Jungfernstieg is a few minutes’ walk away, City Hall, the Neuer Wall shopping street and the Hamburg trade fair and congress centre about 15 minutes, and the Hamburg State Opera is close by. The harbour, the fish market and HafenCity are ten minutes by taxi. Gänsemarkt underground station is a two-minute walk, the main railway station five minutes by car, and Hamburg Airport around 20 minutes by taxi or limousine. The hotel has its own garage for guests’ cars.

Spa

The Vier Jahreszeiten Spa covers almost 1,000 m² on the fifth floor, its mood described as Sylt flair meeting the Hamptons. It has treatment rooms with private showers, a relaxation room with a fireplace, separate saunas for men and women, and a roof terrace looking across the rooftops as far as the Elbphilharmonie. More than 100 treatments draw on Eastern and Western wellness traditions: massages (the tailored Vier Jahreszeiten Massage, deep tissue, hot stone and the calming Sleep Well), facials, manicures and pedicures, physiotherapy and device-based JetPeel, DermWave and Feather Touch treatments. The spa works with Augustinus Bader products.

Sports & leisure

The gym, set high above the rooftops and styled like a New York loft, is open around the clock; a personal trainer is available on request, and under the Fairmont Fit programme the hotel lends sportswear and training shoes free of charge if asked before arrival. The concierges arrange bicycles and a series of private experiences: drives around Hamburg in a vintage car, a Porsche 911 or a Jeep Wrangler, a tour and tasting in the hotel’s wine cellar, home to more than 120,000 wines, an AKI caviar tasting with Champagne, an evening at the Chef’s Table of Haerlin and a photo walk with a Leica camera. Adults can also join courses in business etiquette and table manners.

For children

The hotel runs etiquette courses for children aged 6–12 and teenagers aged 13–17, where young guests learn through play how to greet people, lay a table and behave at it, with an alcohol-free cocktail at the bar, a shared meal and a certificate at the end. The spa offers junior massages, facials and manicures with child-friendly products for children up to 14. Babysitting, a baby set with cot and extra beds are available, and the GRILL has a children’s menu.

Restaurants & bars

The hotel’s dining spans three restaurants, a café, a bistro, a tea lounge, bars and summer terraces by the water.

  • Haerlin — gourmet restaurant with a six-course seasonal tasting menu, Chinese silk wallpaper and gold embossing; dinner Tuesday to Saturday, with a Chef’s Table for eight in the kitchen
  • NIKKEI NINE — Japanese cooking with Peruvian accents: sushi, wagyu, Nikkei ceviche and dishes from the robata grill in an open show kitchen; a DJ plays Thursday to Saturday, and the NIKKEI BAR serves cocktails and sake
  • GRILL — Hanseatic cuisine with international touches in a 1920s Art Deco setting of Caucasian walnut panelling and the Oval Salon; a seafood display with fish, oysters and crustaceans, lunch and dinner, and a Martini Bar at its heart
  • Café Condi — the hotel’s Biedermeier-style café overlooking the Alster, for breakfast and brunch with a buffet and à la carte dishes and bread from a cast-iron oven; the Heuboden room opens in season
  • Condi Lounge — bistro serving coffee, bagels, sandwiches, cakes from the in-house patisserie and Sprüngli chocolates, with a shop for the hotel’s own products and a sun terrace
  • Wohnhalle — “Hamburg’s living room”, with a fireplace and a pianist; British afternoon tea with scones, club sandwiches and cakes
  • Jahreszeiten Bar — Hamburg’s smallest bar, spread over two floors with Alster views, original Rolls-Royce leather seats, 70 whiskies and 25 gins
  • DECK 4 — summer terrace on the Inner Alster in maritime blue and white, serving fish dishes and lobster rolls in the warmer months
  • Rooftop Terrace — 300 m² terrace on the roof for hotel and spa guests, with white lounges, beach chairs and a Champagne bar; open in summer
Pets

The hotel is pet-free: animals are not permitted in the rooms, the restaurants or the public areas.
