About this hotel
General information
The Burman Hotel is an intimate boutique address in Tallinn Old Town and a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. It occupies a historic building on Rataskaevu Street that was once home to wealthy merchants, with just 17 rooms and suites over three floors. Interiors pair classic and contemporary: pale natural stone, marble, touches of gold, plush fabrics and a considered collection of artworks.
Each category has its own palette — blue and terracotta in the Deluxe rooms, turquoise and gold in the Junior Suites, red and gold in the Prestige Suites. Food is a large part of the draw: the hotel has Écrin for breakfast and its evening lounge, the Japanese omakase counter Koyo and the Cantonese restaurant Shang Shi. A small spa with Biologique Recherche treatments, a Japanese bath and a jacuzzi completes the picture.
Location
The hotel stands at Rataskaevu 7, long one of the most distinguished streets of Tallinn's UNESCO-listed Old Town, lined with medieval merchant houses, boutiques, galleries and restaurants. Town Hall Square and Toompea Hill with its viewing platforms are a few minutes' walk away. Tallinn Airport is 8 km from the hotel.
Spa
The Burman Spa is a small, marble-clad space with low lighting and minimalist interiors. Its wet zone has a Japanese bath, a jacuzzi, a steam room and loungers for resting, along with elegant changing rooms; access is free for hotel guests. Treatments are created with the Paris brand Biologique Recherche: each one starts with a skin diagnosis, and the menu covers facials, body treatments, massages and add-ons such as LED light facials. The brand's products are also on sale at the spa.
Sports & leisure
Leisure in the hotel centres on the spa, with its Japanese bath, jacuzzi and steam room, open daily from morning to evening. The concierge helps with plans around the city, and the address itself invites exploring on foot: through the lanes of the Old Town to Town Hall Square, the Church of the Holy Spirit and Pikk Street, up Toompea Hill to the Kohtuotsa and Patkuli viewing platforms, and along the city walls and towers.
Restaurants & bars
The hotel has three restaurants and an evening lounge, plus round-the-clock in-room dining.
- Écrin — breakfast for hotel guests, à la carte dishes alongside a buffet, served every morning
- Écrin Lounge — an evening room with a caviar menu, cocktails and a wine list, open from mid-afternoon until late several days a week
- Koyo — an 11-seat Japanese omakase restaurant where the chefs prepare each course in front of guests, with a menu that follows the seasons and two dinner seatings
- Shang Shi — Cantonese cooking that pairs traditional recipes with a modern approach, open for dinner
