About this hotel
General information
Jackalope Hotel stands within LL Vineyard, an 11-hectare estate planted in 1989 on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. It was conceived by founder and creative director Louis Li, who brought in some of Australia’s leading creatives: the practice Carr, led by Sue Carr, designed the contemporary building and its interiors, TCL shaped the landscape, Pascale Gomes-McNabb the restaurant, and Zuster made the bespoke furniture.
The hotel is part wine estate, part gallery. Its collection takes in a seven-metre sculpture of the mythical jackalope by Emily Floyd alongside works by Tracey Emin, Tatsuo Miyajima, Rick Owens, Rolf Sachs, Andrew Hazewinkel and others. There are 46 rooms, two restaurants, a cocktail bar and a spa with a 30-metre infinity pool; the hotel welcomes guests aged 12 and over and is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World.
Location
Merricks North on the Mornington Peninsula, a little over an hour’s drive from Melbourne. Guests are driven free of charge within a 10 km radius in a hybrid Lexus SUV, and on-site parking is complimentary.
Spa
The Spa offers hot and cold bathing, an infrared sauna and treatment rooms, working with Pevonia skincare and, in some treatments, pinot grape extract. The menu includes the Jackalope Caviar Facial, hot stone massage, the Blend and Polish body rituals and the three-hour Burrow Body Ritual, with a pregnancy treatment too. Non-residents are welcome.
Sports & leisure
Guests have unlimited use of the 30-metre infinity pool, the heated spa pool and the infrared sauna, plus access to a local gym. Stays include a tasting at the Cellar Door and a changing daily programme of guest experiences, and the hotel’s art collection can be explored on site. Around it lie cellar doors and wineries, surf beaches and calm bay beaches, golf courses, natural hot springs and national parks.
For children
The hotel is reserved for guests aged 12 and over.
Restaurants & bars
Two restaurants, a cocktail bar and the estate’s tasting room:

- Rare Hare Wine & Food Store — share-style modern Australian lunches, a wood-fired oven and the estate’s Rare Hare wines, with the 90-seat Panorama Dining Room looking over the vines in a 270-degree sweep
- Flaggerdoot — a cocktail bar in the 1876 McCormick House, with herringbone floors, a fireplace and an electric-blue pool table; classic and experimental drinks built on house infusions
- Cellar Door — tastings of LL Vineyard wines
- in-room dining — dishes, cocktails and wine from lunchtime into the evening
