About this hotel
General information
Dulini Anabezi is a Dulini tented camp in a secluded eastern corner of Lower Zambezi National Park, well away from most other camps. Its name joins the Zambezi with the ana, the winterthorn acacia whose groves surround the camp. Twelve tented suites and two shared areas sit on a raised timber boardwalk with no permanent structures, so wildlife moves freely beneath it, and around 90 per cent of the camp’s power comes from the sun.
This part of the park is known for a high density of leopards; a lion pride and a pack of wild dogs live here too, and elephants and buffalo come out onto the floodplain every day and cross the river to its islands. All meals, house wines, beers and soft drinks, the minibar, scheduled activities, laundry and airstrip transfers are included. The camp is open from April to November and welcomes children aged eight and over.
Location
The camp stands on the bank of the Zambezi in the eastern part of Lower Zambezi National Park, in a forest of ana trees, looking over the river, its floodplain and the Kulefu Channel. The flight from Lusaka takes about 40 minutes: daily Proflight services land at Jeki airstrip, while private charters use the closer Kulefu airstrip, and road transfers from either are included. Jeki also has flights to Mfuwe, the gateway to South Luangwa National Park, and boat transfers link the camp with other Lower Zambezi camps.
Spa
There is no spa building; treatments are given in the suite itself. The camp’s therapists offer deep-tissue massage, full-body scrubs, manicures and pedicures, charged separately.
Sports & leisure
Activities explore the wildlife by land and by water:
- morning and late-afternoon game drives in open vehicles, shaped around each group;
- night drives, when predators hunt and hyenas, civets and genets are about;
- walking safaris with an expert guide;
- cruises on the Zambezi in pontoon boats, sunset outings included;
- canoeing along the river channels with a certified guide;
- catch-and-release fishing for tigerfish, with the camp’s spinning rods and tackle (fly anglers bring their own gear);
- birding, with more than 350 species recorded in the area;
- photographic safaris in vehicles adapted for photographers, with beanbags on request.
Game drives, walks, river cruises, canoeing and birding are included; a private vehicle and guide can be arranged on request. Every suite has a yoga mat.
Restaurants & bars
Zambezi Deck is the hub of the camp: it holds the main dining area, serves afternoon tea and cake before the evening drive and is where every activity sets off, often with elephants drinking just across the water. The quieter Mushika Deck, at the far end of the boardwalk, has a full bar and looks over the Mushika floodplain and a waterhole visited by elephants and buffalo. At sunset guests gather around the fire pit for a drink. Much of the produce comes from local farmers, and plant-based menus are available on request.
Swimming
The camp has two swimming pools, one on Zambezi Deck and one on Mushika Deck, both overlooking the floodplain. Each suite also has its own plunge pool on the deck.
Rooms
Twelve tented suites on raised timber decks are linked to the main areas by the boardwalk and placed for privacy. Among them is a family tent: two connected rooms, one with a king bed and one with twin beds, each with its own bathroom, sharing a deck and plunge pool.
Each suite has a king or twin beds under a mosquito net, a spacious sitting area, ceiling fans, a bathroom with a freestanding claw-foot bathtub and an outdoor shower, a minibar and coffee station, bathrobes and slippers, eco-friendly toiletries, a yoga mat, 24-hour power and Wi-Fi, and a deck with a private plunge pool.
