Namia River Retreat

About this hotel

General information

Namia River Retreat occupies Cồn Ba Xã, a small islet in the Thu Bồn river a few minutes from Hoi An’s old town. It is an all-villa resort: sixty single-storey villas, each with its own pool, set between the water and stands of nipa palm. The islet’s shoreline is held by mangrove planting, the gardens use native species and the buildings rely on local materials. The resort is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World and is run by Lumina Wellbeing.

The defining idea is wellness included in the stay. Every guest is given a daily ninety-minute programme rooted in Thuốc Nam, the southern Vietnamese herbal tradition: an herbal steam or a riverside sauna with a cold plunge, followed by an hour of traditional therapy. The rest of the day is shaped by yoga, dawn bicycle rides through the countryside, paddling around the islet, sunset boat trips and a lantern-lighting ritual at dusk.

Location

The resort sits on an islet in the Thu Bồn river within Hoi An, with a postal address in Da Nang City. Hoi An’s old town is about 10 minutes away, reached several times a day by the resort’s complimentary river shuttle boat, and the central market is an easy bicycle ride. Da Nang International Airport lies 30 km away, roughly 45 minutes by road.

Spa

Lumina Wellbeing & Spa pairs traditional Vietnamese herbal medicine with mindfulness. It has a river-view welcome area, two traditional apothecaries, eight herbal steam rooms, two relaxation lounges, four single and six double treatment rooms, a riverside terrace with a sauna and cold plunge, and a small wellness shop. The daily programme begins at the apothecary, where guests collect an herb parcel chosen from an online wellbeing assessment, continues with 30 minutes of Xông Hơi herbal steam or the sauna and cold plunge, and ends with a 60-minute traditional therapy, alone or as a couple. Signature techniques include Dien Chan facial reflexology, Vietnamese massage, cupping and personalised herbal rituals. Three pathways shape the stay: Deep Rest for sleep and stress, Body Balance for pain relief and circulation, and an extended detox programme, Holistic Healing.

Sports & leisure

There is a fitness centre, indoor studios for yoga and training, and open-air salas for meditation. Yoga classes run several times a day, and the signature session is Duong Sinh, a traditional Vietnamese practice of breathwork and gentle movement; a daily silent walk, a blessing-tree ritual and the evening lantern lighting complete the routine. Bamboo bicycles come with every villa. Complimentary outings include a dawn cycling route through the countryside, paddling around the islet and a sunset cruise on the Thu Bồn. The team also leads Vespa rides through the villages and islands around Hoi An, a photography walk in town and an evening among the town’s lesser-known cocktail bars.

Restaurants & bars

Cooking draws on Vietnamese flavours, local produce and Hoi An’s trading past.

  • The Merchant Restaurant — all-day Vietnamese and international dishes with Hoi An-inspired cocktails, two floors of dining rooms, a terrace and private dining pods facing the river
  • The Fisherman Restaurant & Pool Bar — guests-only restaurant and pool bar for modern seafood, fire-grilled dishes, seasonal cocktails and artisanal ice cream
  • The Merchant River Cruise — breakfast, lunch and dinner aboard a boat on the Thu Bồn, with barbecues or set menus; available for private charter
Swimming

There is no beach: the resort’s water is the river. Every villa has its own pool, 130 m² in the family villas. A shared outdoor heated pool overlooks the river, with The Fisherman’s bar alongside.
