Hotel de la Coupole – MGallery

About this hotel

General information

Hotel de la Coupole is an MGallery hotel in the heart of Sa Pa, conceived as a nostalgic look back at the 1920s and 1930s, when this town among the rice terraces was a fashionable mountain retreat. Its interiors bring together two unlikely themes: furniture and detailing inspired by French haute couture, and the colours, patterns and textiles of the peoples who live in the surrounding hills. Antiques, vintage finds, paintings and crafts add up to a look that is flamboyant yet polished.

The 249 rooms and suites are each decorated differently, and large windows, walkways, terraces and balconies frame sweeping views of the Sa Pa valley. Beyond the rooms there is a French restaurant, a patisserie, a rooftop bar facing the mountains, Nuages Spa, the Le Grand Bassin indoor pool, a gym and a kids' club, along with banqueting and event spaces.

Location

The hotel stands on Hoang Lien Street in the centre of Sa Pa, roughly 350 km north-west of Hanoi. The Stone Church is a few minutes' walk away and the town market about 20 minutes on foot. From Hanoi the drive takes about five hours, and about four from Noi Bai International Airport; alternatively, the train runs to Lao Cai in about eight hours, followed by roughly an hour by shuttle bus, and the hotel arranges transfers from Lao Cai station at extra cost.

Spa

Nuages Spa occupies the seventh floor, its cream-and-black interiors drawing on French fashion of the 1920s and 1930s. Treatments build on Red Dao healing traditions and botanicals from Fansipan mountain: the signature Red Dao herbal bath, a signature massage that begins with that bath and continues with gentle rocking movements, Voyage à Sapa with warm bamboo sticks, and a short therapy for the back, neck and shoulders. A sauna and a tea room complete the facilities. The spa is open daily from 09:00 to 21:00.

Sports & leisure

Athleticum, the gym, is dressed in deep blue with floor-to-ceiling windows onto the mountains and opens from 06:00 to 22:00; the Le Grand Bassin indoor pool is open from 06:00 to 21:00. The hotel has direct access to the station for the Fansipan cable car, and its own M Moment experience takes guests to the summit with VIP cable car access and a cocktail at the top; a scheduled shuttle to Fansipan runs at extra cost. Guided hikes through the rice terraces can be arranged, and the nearby Stone Church hosts regular cultural events.

For children

Bobbins Kids Club on the tenth floor is a fully supervised children's club, open from 09:00 to 18:00 on request. Children colour, learn the patterns of the hill peoples and make their own tribal-inspired pieces, stuffed toys among them. Babysitting is available at extra cost.

Restaurants & bars

A breakfast buffet is served daily from 06:00 to 10:00, with room service and menus for children and vegetarians also available:

  • Chic — French restaurant cooking with local ingredients, with a carefully chosen wine list and regular live cooking stations; a lantern-lined catwalk runs through the room and a large balcony looks out over Sa Pa's mountains and valleys
  • Absinthe — rooftop bar beneath an opulent dome, serving signature cocktails, fine wines and tapas; an open fireplace warms the terrace, which overlooks the Sa Pa skyline and the misty mountains
  • Cacao — patisserie and café in the lobby with a spiral staircase, offering handmade Marou chocolates, cakes, pastries, macarons and a signature hot chocolate
Swimming

Le Grand Bassin, the heated indoor pool on the seventh floor, is a theatrical space of emerald marble columns, bronze statues, pink chandeliers and velvet loungers, with floor-to-ceiling windows on both sides looking across the Sa Pa valley. A poolside menu is available, and the pool is open from 06:00 to 21:00.
