Azerai La Residence, Hue

About this hotel

General information

Azerai La Residence, Hue occupies two and a half hectares on the bank of the Perfume River in Hue, Vietnam’s old imperial capital. At its heart is a 1930s mansion in the streamline moderne strand of art deco: the long horizontal lines of the façade and its nautical flourishes give it the air of a steamer moored at the water’s edge.

Two contemporary wings pick up the art deco vocabulary and frame a tropical garden and a 40-metre saltwater pool running beside the river. In all there are 122 rooms and suites, the Le Parfum restaurant with its riverside terrace, Le Gouverneur Bar in the old mansion, a six-room spa and the hotel’s own boats for trips along the river to the sights of the former capital.

Location

The hotel stands directly on the Perfume River in central Hue, within its own garden. The Imperial City, Thiên Mụ Pagoda, the old garden houses and the craft villages around the city all feature on the hotel’s excursions – on foot, by bicycle, by cyclo or by boat along the river.

Spa

Le Spa at La Residence covers some 545 m² with six treatment rooms – two for couples and four singles – each with its own dressing area, shower and divan and 1930s art deco detailing. The menu includes the Azerai signature treatment, herbal poultice therapy, traditional Vietnamese cupping, bamboo leg therapy, hot stone massage and a traditional hair wash, with ingredients such as rice, black beans, star anise, cinnamon, ginger, lemon and lemongrass.

Sports & leisure

The fitness centre has Technogym treadmills, exercise bikes and an elliptical trainer, strength equipment and a rubber-floored free-weights area. Two hotel boats for up to 12 guests, Moon River Cruise and Long Giang Cruise, run afternoon tea, sunset cocktail, breakfast and private dinner trips on the Perfume River. Excursions take in the Imperial City, Thiên Mụ Pagoda and the royal tombs, cycling routes, Hue’s garden houses, craft villages, sunset on Tam Giang Lagoon and a day trip to Hoi An; golfers can play a coastal links course about 20 km east of the old capital, with sea views throughout.

For children

There is a kids’ club, along with creative activities drawn from local culture: pizza making, paper lotus crafting and cake decorating.

Restaurants & bars

Le Parfum serves breakfast, lunch and dinner as a brasserie with Vietnamese and Western dishes, with tables set out on a terrace overlooking the river. Le Gouverneur Bar, just off the lobby lounge in the old mansion, is open from 08:00 to midnight for cocktails, wines, liqueurs and beer, local brews included. The hotel’s dining experiences add a Vietnamese cooking class, a poolside barbecue, an imperial feast and menus of Hue’s royal cuisine, as well as private dinners aboard its boats.

Swimming

The 40-metre saltwater pool lies at the far side of the tropical garden, running parallel to the river, and is lined with shaded sun loungers.
