About this hotel
General information
The resort spreads across some 22 hectares above the ocean on Maui’s north-west coast, within the wider Kapalua estate and its two championship golf courses. Next door lies the Honokahua Preservation Site, an ancient Hawaiian wahi pana, or sacred place, which the hotel helps look after. The rooms have been recently redesigned with dark wood floors, marble bathrooms, an island-modern look and work by local artists.
There are 468 rooms, suites and residences, six restaurants and bars plus the Tales of the Kapa Moe lū‘au, a spa rooted in Hawaiian ritual, the Anuenue Room club lounge overlooking the Bay Course, and more than 70 weekly experiences, from cultural sessions to wellness classes. The hotel hosts the annual Kapalua Wine & Food Festival in June and the Whale Tales humpback whale gathering each February, and the Alaloa Lounge stages the evening Kapalua Concert Series.
Location
The hotel sits at the north-western tip of Maui in Kapalua, with direct access to D.T. Fleming Beach and Kapalua’s six bays all within a 10-minute drive. Kapalua Airport is about 5 km away and the island’s main airport at Kahului about 55 km. There is no hotel shuttle, but private car and limousine service and car rental are available on site.
Spa
The Ritz-Carlton Maui Spa, Kapalua covers around 1,625 m², with 15 treatment rooms, more than half of them opening onto private outdoor shower gardens, and two open-air couples’ hales. Separate men’s and women’s areas with lounges, saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools and cold plunges are open to guests aged 18 and over. Treatments draw on Hawaiian tradition and on botanicals and herbs grown in the hotel garden — a deep-cleansing organic facial, an herbal CBD massage, an oxygen facial with Intraceuticals products — alongside a salon, manicures and pedicures and men’s services.
Sports & leisure
Two 18-hole courses lie next door: the Plantation Course by Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore, home to the PGA TOUR’s The Sentry each January, and the Arnold Palmer and Francis Duane-designed Bay Course, whose 17th is the only hole on Maui played over the ocean; the Kapalua Golf Academy offers tuition. On site there are tennis and pickleball courts, basketball, bocce, shuffleboard and lawn games, cruiser bikes and a 24-hour fitness centre with Technogym, Peloton and Tonal equipment and mind-body classes. The Ambassadors of the Environment team leads coastal hikes along the ancient Alaloa Trail to the tide pools and e-bike tours, and the concierge arranges riding at Ironwood Ranch, ziplining, trail hikes, snorkelling cruises, yacht charters, the Road to Hana, sunrise on Haleakalā and helicopter flights.
For children
The resort is one of six Ritz-Carlton hotels worldwide to host Ambassadors of the Environment, created with Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ocean Futures Society. Children aged 5–14 head out with naturalists to look for green sea turtles, explore tide pools, learn about lava and Hawaiian legends and build an island survival shelter; families with children from five join shared excursions, and themed birthday parties can be arranged. Younger guests also have a children’s pool, a milkshake-making class and salon services at the spa from age five.
Restaurants & bars
Six restaurants and bars cook with island produce, and a lū‘au runs twice a week.

Swimming
The hotel opens directly onto D.T. Fleming Beach on Honokahua Bay, a sandy beach with lifeguards, picnic areas and a gentle shore break, where private Casabella cabanas can be reserved. On the grounds are an outdoor pool with whirlpools, a separate children’s pool, and VIP cabanas and Oasis beds. Kapalua Bay, good for snorkelling, is 2 km away, and the Honolua Bay marine preserve 10 minutes’ drive.
