About this hotel
General information
The Little Nell is a small Relais & Châteaux hotel at the foot of Aspen Mountain (Ajax), a few steps from the Silver Queen Gondola — skis go on right outside the door. From the street it looks like an old country inn; inside, its interiors and service stand comparison with the finest contemporary hotels, and it holds Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five Diamond ratings.
Rooms and lounges are furnished with real care: custom-made carved furniture, decorative fireplaces, antique pieces and richly coloured drapery. The hotel has a ski-in, ski-out spa, a heated outdoor pool in the courtyard, the Element 47 restaurant, several bars and a cellar of more than 20,000 bottles, plus spaces for weddings and private celebrations, from grand to intimate.
Location
The hotel is in Aspen, Colorado, at the foot of Aspen Mountain (Ajax) and a few steps from the Silver Queen Gondola. A complimentary hotel car handles airport transfers and trips around town.
Spa
The Spa at The Little Nell is the only ski-in, ski-out spa in the region. Its three treatment suites each have a private changing room and steam shower, and two add hybrid infrared and halotherapy saunas with a relaxation area. Treatments use Georgia Louise, Seed to Skin Tuscany and the Colorado brand ISUN; signatures include the Mountain Metamorphosis Ritual and a deep recovery massage. The fitness centre is next door.
Sports & leisure
The Rocky Mountains around Aspen have something for every season. Winter means downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, snowshoeing and paragliding off the mountain; summer brings bike hire, mountain hiking, fishing, golf, horse riding and rafting.
For children
Families get connecting rooms, cribs, strollers, car seats, high chairs, children’s robes and slippers, board games and a children’s in-room dining menu, with a kids’ teepee in the larger suites. The concierge arranges children’s ski and bike hire, seasonal kids’ adventures and licensed babysitters.
Restaurants & bars
A serious wine programme ties the dining together: the cellar holds over 20,000 bottles, and Master Sommeliers host private tastings and wine-paired dinners.
- Element 47 — contemporary American cooking built on Colorado produce, from breakfast to dinner; Michelin-recommended and a Wine Spectator Grand Award holder
- Ajax Tavern — easy-going après-ski on a sunny patio at the foot of Aspen Mountain, known for its double cheeseburger
- The Wine Bar — an intimate fireside bar pouring the hotel’s cellar by the glass, rare bottles included
- The Board Room — a private bar hidden behind a bookcase for up to 15 guests, with a pool table and a dedicated bartender or sommelier
- Aspen Collection Café — a café and shop by the gondola base serving coffee, pastries and light bites
Swimming
The heated outdoor pool and hot tub sit in the landscaped courtyard, looking up at Aspen Mountain; the hot tub is open around the clock and there is an outdoor sauna alongside. In the warmer months food and drinks are served poolside.
Skiing
The Silver Queen Gondola up Aspen Mountain (Ajax) is a few steps from the entrance, so guests can head for the slopes straight from the hotel. The ski concierge stores and warms boots, tunes skis overnight, books lessons and arranges First Tracks and snowcat powder tours, with premium rental kit through Aspen Collection.
Pets
Dogs are welcome in every room, with a bed, bowls and house-made peanut butter treats waiting, a dedicated pet menu, plus dog walking, dog sitting and tips on dog-friendly trails around Aspen.
