The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco

About this hotel

General information

The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco occupies one of Nob Hill’s best-known buildings: a 1909 alabaster neoclassical landmark of massive columns and a ceremonial pediment that reads more like a museum or grand library than a hotel. It once housed an insurance company’s headquarters and was converted into a hotel in the 1980s; today’s interiors are dressed in crisp whites, deep blues and rich greys.

The hotel holds the AAA Five Diamond Award, and its Ritz-Carlton Club level — with its own check-in, dedicated concierge and business lounge — runs almost as a separate hotel. Events are served by 14 rooms, among them a ballroom of some 870 m² lit by Bavarian crystal chandeliers and seating 826, plus a terrace courtyard with the chef’s herb garden; weddings are also hosted.

Location

The hotel stands on Stockton Street in upscale Nob Hill, next to Union Square, with the cable car stopping right outside for Fisherman’s Wharf and Ghirardelli Square. San Francisco International Airport is about 25 minutes’ drive away, Oakland International 35 minutes.

Sports & leisure

The hotel has a fitness centre and a gift shop, and the concierge arranges restaurant bookings and city excursions.

For children

Families can book spacious two-bedroom connecting suites with city views, and children’s amenities are provided in the rooms.

Restaurants & bars

Parallel 37 serves a classic American breakfast, then Californian cooking from local ingredients and cocktails inspired by the city’s neighbourhoods at lunch and dinner; its private dining room seats 20. Bruma, named after San Francisco’s famous fog, pairs signature cocktails with modern California cuisine.

Pets

Only dogs are accepted — up to two per room, each weighing no more than 16 kg — for a one-off fee per stay.
