About this hotel
General information
For more than a century Fairmont San Francisco has crowned the summit of Nob Hill, and it remains one of the landmarks of the city’s historic core. It is the original Fairmont, opened in 1907: the stately Beaux-Arts main building is joined by a modern 23-storey Tower whose upper floors look out across the city and San Francisco Bay.
The hotel is as suited to leisure travellers as to business guests: 23 event spaces covering some 6,700 m² hold up to 2,300 guests, and the team also arranges meetings and weddings. From here the famous cable car is the easiest way down to the Financial District and the city’s main sights.
Location
The hotel sits at the very top of Nob Hill, San Francisco’s most patrician neighbourhood, with the cable car connecting it to the Financial District and the principal sights.
Spa
Chateau de la Beauté, a day spa on the lobby level, offers facials, manicures and pedicures, body treatments, sugaring and hair services with Biologique Recherche, MBR Cosmetics, Bellefontaine and Dazzle Dry products. Massage, sauna and steam room are found at Live Fit Gym & Wellness Spa.
Sports & leisure
Live Fit Gym & Wellness Spa on the Terrace Level has a modern training floor with professional instructors, a sauna, a steam room and massage rooms. Lobby shops sell original art and custom jewellery and host wine tastings, while the concierges arrange transfers, private tours and Alcatraz tickets.
For children
Families have spacious rooms with bunk beds and dedicated family suites; on request the hotel plans activities and city itineraries for children and arranges babysitting.
Restaurants & bars
The kitchens use herbs from the hotel’s rooftop garden, which is also home to its beehives, and restaurant dishes are available in the rooms.
- Laurel Court Restaurant & Bar — seasonal California coastal cooking beneath a domed ceiling and marble columns, serving breakfast, cocktails and dinner, plus the afternoon tea that has been a house ritual since the hotel opened in 1907
- Tonga Room & Hurricane Bar — Pacific Rim Asian cooking in a tropical room complete with a staged rainstorm, live music and a dance floor; the bar is known for its Mai Tai
- Cirque Bar — a Prohibition-era bar with gilded Art Deco murals, serving coffee during the day
Pets
Pets are welcome for an additional fee; they must be kept on a lead and are never to be left alone in the room.
