Aman New York

About this hotel

General information

Aman New York occupies the Crown Building, a 1921 landmark on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street that has marked the midpoint of Manhattan for more than a century and was once the first home of the Museum of Modern Art. The building has been fully restored, with interiors by Jean-Michel Gathy that set its original grandeur against Aman’s pared-back calm.

Flagship boutiques of international houses fill the lower floors; above them are 83 suites and a collection of Homes that rank among the largest hotel spaces in the city, each suite with a working fireplace and Japanese-inspired interiors. The hotel is known for its year-round Garden Terrace, a three-floor Aman Spa, the Arva and Akari restaurants on the 14th floor and a subterranean Jazz Club, all a few minutes’ walk from Central Park.

Location

The hotel stands in Midtown at 730 Fifth Avenue, on the corner of 57th Street and close to Central Park. JFK and Newark airports are 45–60 minutes away by car, LaGuardia 30–40 minutes and Teterboro, for private jets, 45–60 minutes. The concierge arranges transfers from every airport, including helicopter transfers with BLADE.

Spa

Aman Spa New York spreads over three floors and more than 2,300 m². The first holds consultation rooms for integrative medicine, a cryotherapy chamber, the fitness centre and a reformer Pilates studio; the second a 20-metre heated pool, changing rooms with sauna and steam room, a yoga studio and a cold-plunge terrace. Two private Spa Houses, one built around a marble hammam, each have a year-round terrace with hot bath and cold plunge, a lounge and a double treatment room. The third floor has seven treatment rooms, a contrast-therapy suite with infrared sauna and red-light therapy, and a hair and nail salon. Medical aesthetics are offered with bodySCULPT, and retreats with visiting experts include a three-day detox programme by Novak Djokovic.

Sports & leisure

The 280 m² fitness centre overlooking 56th Street has Technogym equipment, Cellgym CellAir hypoxic training and infrared body rolls for recovery, with personal trainers, yoga and Pilates studios and the spa’s 20-metre pool. Guests can join culinary masterclasses with the chefs and mixologists, private museum tours, artist studio visits, fashion shoots with a renowned photographer, a behind-the-scenes look at New York City Ballet and a seasonal programme of cultural events. A complimentary house car covers drop-offs within a 20-block radius.

For children

Children may use the pool from 10 am to 6 pm, the culinary masterclasses are open to all ages and the weekend brunch at Arva is designed for families and friends.

Restaurants & bars

The 14th floor is the culinary heart of the hotel, with bars, terraces and a jazz club around it:

  • Arva — Italian harvest cooking built on seasonal produce; breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch
  • Akari — Japanese washoku by chef Takuma Yonemaru, with kaiseki evenings and omakase at a seven-seat hinoki counter
  • Lounge Bar — a fireside bar serving light Italian- and Japanese-accented dishes, original cocktails, afternoon tea and live jazz in the evening
  • Garden Terrace — a year-round terrace with a retractable glass roof, firepits and water features
  • Corner Bar — an open-air bar above the crossroads of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street for seasonal cocktails, caviar, oysters and sushi
  • The Jazz Club — an underground speakeasy with live music, cocktails and small plates

There is also a Wine Library and a series of private dining rooms overlooking 56th Street.

Swimming

The spa’s second floor is built around a 20-metre heated indoor pool with lounging areas and firepits. Two of the Homes have their own heated pools on private terraces.

Pets

Dogs are welcome, up to two per suite and each up to 22 kg. They may not be left alone in the suite, must be leashed or carried in public areas and are not allowed in the pool.

Rooms

The hotel has 83 suites, divided into Suites and Signature Suites, while the upper floors of the Crown Building hold one- to three-bedroom Homes with their own kitchens and a dedicated lift to the restaurants and spa. Interiors use wood, washi paper and stone in a spirit of Japanese minimalism.

In each room

Every suite and Home has a glass-enclosed working fireplace, a deep soaking tub and walk-in rain shower, pivoting panels with mood lighting, tablet controls, a workstation, a bar with espresso set-up, bottled cocktails, wine and spirits, and butler service.
