About this hotel
General information
The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas spreads over some 12 hectares on Great Bay at the eastern end of St. Thomas, looking across the water to the sea and St. John. The resort draws on traditional island architecture, reworked in a contemporary key inside, and every room and suite has its own balcony facing either the gardens or the sea.
It is a large resort that works as well for couples as for families: a beach on the bay with a watersports centre, an infinity-edge pool for guests aged 13 and over beside a family pool with a waterslide, a spa, tennis courts, the Ritz Kids programme and five restaurants and cafés. Club Level guests have their own lounge with food served through the day, a dedicated concierge and a private stretch of beach. The resort’s own sailing catamaran, Lady Lynsey II, sets off from the hotel beach for snorkelling and sailing among the neighbouring islands.
Location
The resort sits on Great Bay at the East End of St. Thomas, next to Red Hook, where ferries leave for St. John. St. John itself lies about 5 km away across the channel between St. Thomas and St. John, and the British Virgin Islands are a short boat ride further. St. Thomas airport is about 16 km away. The hotel runs no shuttle of its own; a private car, limousine or van can be arranged, and boats to St. John and the British Virgin Islands leave straight from the hotel beach.
Spa
The Ritz-Carlton Spa, St. Thomas works by appointment. Its menu covers massages, among them an aromatic full-body massage with tropical oils, a sugar scrub and a warm coconut-oil hair and scalp treatment, and a massage in a cabana at the water’s edge that can also be booked for two. There are also facials, including HydraFacial, body scrubs and wraps, eye and lip treatments, manicures, pedicures, make-up and treatments for men. The fitness centre’s locker rooms have steam rooms.
Sports & leisure
Most of the activity is on or by the water:
- from the beach on Great Bay: kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, snorkelling gear and Hobie Cat sailing
- the resort’s sailing catamaran Lady Lynsey II: snorkelling sails to Maho Bay on St. John, where sea turtles are often seen, snorkelling trips to nearby cays, sunset sails and evening sails to Lovango Cay or St. John for dinner
- day sails to Honeymoon Beach in the Virgin Islands National Park and to Cruz Bay on St. John, and boat day trips to the British Virgin Islands, all leaving from the hotel beach
- guided scuba dives daily for every level, plus certification courses
- two floodlit tennis courts with lessons from a resident pro, and a Topgolf Swing Suite golf simulator
- a 24-hour fitness centre of about 186 m² with sea views, personal trainers and daily classes: a morning fitness walk, cardio, water fitness and beach boot camp
- guided walks through the resort gardens
For children
The Ritz Kids programme introduces young guests to the sea, nature and the island’s culture through activities on the water and on land, with an eye to caring for the environment. Children also have their own pool, a splash pad and a family pool with a waterslide.
Restaurants & bars
The resort has five restaurants and cafés:
- Sails — beachfront restaurant serving fish, seafood and grilled steaks, becoming an open-air bar in the evening
- Alloro — Italian dinner restaurant with a Sicilian-inspired menu of fresh pasta, fish and seafood, and tables on the terrace
- Coconut Cove — on the beach, American cooking with a coastal touch: light bites by day, dishes from the grill in the evening
- Bleuwater — breakfast with sea views, à la carte with dishes drawing on local Caribbean cooking, or a buffet
- Southwind — coffee house for pastries, paninis and desserts
Club Level guests are served breakfast, a light lunch, evening hors d’oeuvres and desserts in the Club Lounge. There is in-room dining, and private four-course dinners can be set up on the beach.
Swimming
Great Bay beach lies right in front of the resort, with calm, clear water for swimming and snorkelling and a watersports centre; Club Level guests have a private stretch of the beach. Above it are a 38-metre infinity-edge pool for guests aged 13 and over, a family pool with a waterslide, a children’s pool, a splash pad and a whirlpool. Shaded cabanas by the pools and a beachfront gazebo can be reserved for the day.
Pets
Pets are not allowed; service animals are welcome.
