General information
Sofitel Montevideo Casino Carrasco & Spa occupies a Belle Époque landmark from the early 20th century on the rambla in the Carrasco district, directly across from the beach on the Río de la Plata. Its event rooms keep their original architectural detail, and Sofitel’s French manner meets Uruguayan hospitality throughout.
The hotel has 116 rooms and suites over four floors, from city-view rooms to spacious suites facing the river. Guests have Restaurant 1921 with its beach view, Bar Sofitel, So Spa with saunas, and two pools heated all year round. The kitchen works with local and organic produce, and single-use plastic has been taken out of the hotel.
Location
The hotel sits on the rambla in Montevideo’s Carrasco district, 100 m from the beach. The Old Town (Ciudad Vieja) is about 18 km away and the port of Montevideo with its ferry terminal 19.5 km, roughly 15 minutes by car. Portones shopping centre is 3.4 km away and the golf club 13.5 km. An on-call shuttle to the port, the shopping centre and the golf club is available at an extra charge.
Spa
So Spa brings together beauty salons, massage rooms, saunas, a solarium and a spa bath, along with a relaxation area and a shop selling skincare. Beside it is a heated indoor pool lined in brown marble with grey flecks, a palette that echoes the waters of the Río de la Plata.
Sports & leisure
The fitness centre has up-to-date machines, treadmills, exercise bikes and free weights, plus a relaxation area, and opens at times that suit guests. There are indoor and outdoor pools heated year-round, and yoga equipment in the rooms. The rambla, 100 m from the door, makes for long walks beside the river, and the golf club 13.5 km away can be reached on the hotel’s paid shuttle.
Restaurants & bars
Restaurant 1921 looks out over the beach and Carrasco and serves regional signature cooking built on local and organic produce, at lunch, dinner and brunch; in the morning it hosts a buffet breakfast with river views. Bar Sofitel, modern in style, faces the sunset and pours tea, international cocktails and wines from a list covering every Uruguayan wine region, with cold and hot snacks alongside. Room service is available.
Swimming
The beach on the Río de la Plata lies 100 m from the hotel, across the rambla. On site there are two pools heated all year, one indoor and one outdoor, with a pool lined in brown marble flecked with grey.
