About this hotel
General information
Narbona Wine Lodge is a small country hotel within the Narbona winery near Carmelo, in south-western Uruguay. The estate covers 50 hectares at the heart of an old estancia founded in the early 20th century: its stone cellar from that time still stands, and a modern winery has been set carefully into the historic settlement beside it. The five suites pair period décor with contemporary comfort, and the lodge welcomes adults only.
Life on the estate revolves around wine and its own produce. The vineyards near the Río de la Plata grow Tannat, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir and Syrah, while milk from the estate’s own cows goes into cheeses, yoghurt and dulce de leche. Guests are met with a welcome glass, soft drinks from the minibar are part of the stay, and days can be filled with a winery tour and tasting, a five-course dinner paired with the estate’s wines or a picnic among the vines.
Location
The lodge sits at kilometre 268 of Route 21 outside Carmelo, in the countryside of Colonia department, where the Narbona vineyards run along the banks of the Río de la Plata. Guests have access to Puerto Camacho, a small port on the coast with moorings, places to eat and a private beach; transfers are arranged on request.
Spa
There is no spa on site: massages are given in the suites, and on request guests can use the spa at Carmelo Resort & Spa.

Restaurants & bars
The main restaurant is on the estate itself, with more places to eat and drink at Puerto Camacho:

An antique wooden bar runs the length of the main room, beside a ripening chamber for the estate’s cheeses and a small shop selling its produce
- The old cellar — a stone cellar from the early 20th century, used for tastings
- Basta Pedro — a bar and restaurant at Puerto Camacho serving homemade pasta and pizza from a clay oven, and Uruguay’s chivito sandwich
- Taberna de Puerto — a pub at Puerto Camacho pouring craft beer on draught alongside tapas
- The ice-cream shop at Puerto Camacho — artisan ice cream in flavours that change weekly, plus ice lollies and alfajores
