Vakko Hotel Sumahan Bosphorus is an intimate hotel right on the water in Çengelköy, on the Asian shore of Istanbul. It occupies a former 19th-century distillery whose tall arched windows open straight onto the strait, while the interiors pair the historic walls with the quiet, tailored style of Vakko, the Turkish fashion house behind the hotel.
There are only twelve rooms, suites and two-storey maisonettes, each with a view of the Bosphorus. The mood is calm and private, with a dedicated butler around the clock, a concierge, a private hamam, a gym and a boat that takes guests into the city by water. Distinctly Vakko are the extras: made-to-measure tailoring, personal shopping and styling, all arranged in the room.
Location
The hotel stands on Kuleli Street in Çengelköy, in the Üsküdar district, on a quiet bay of the Asian Bosphorus shore. The city centre is about 30 minutes by car, Taksim Square 11.6 km and Kadıköy 12.8 km; Sabiha Gökçen Airport is 40 km away and Istanbul Airport 48 km. A private car transfer can be arranged, and the hotel’s own Vakko Boat crosses to Kuruçeşme pier on the European shore, 0.4 nautical miles away, or Bebek, 1.4 nautical miles.
Spa
Wellness centres on a private hamam with four Vakko rituals: the classic scrub with a kese glove and soap foam, a detox bath with aloe vera peel and a head-and-neck massage in olive oil, a bath finished with a nourishing honey, milk and rosewater lotion, and a smoothing ritual with a brown-sugar peel and face mask. Aromatherapy, reflexology, Thai massage and shiatsu are given in the guest rooms.
Sports & leisure
Next to the hamam, the Vakkorama gym is fitted with Technogym treadmills, cross-trainers, indoor bikes and free weights, and every room has its own Technogym kit as well. The Vakko Boat carries guests across to the European shore, private boat tours explore the Bosphorus, and the hotel has its own city guide. Close by are Beylerbeyi Palace (1.6 km), the Anatolian Fortress (4.2 km) and Küçüksu Pavilion (4.5 km). Personal shopping and styling can be arranged in the room, and Vakko tailors make clothes to measure.
Restaurants & bars
Vakko Le Specialità is an Italian restaurant overlooking the Bosphorus, serving tonnarelli carbonara, pizza and veal in mustard sauce, and suited to a business lunch, a sunset aperitivo or dinner. In the lobby, Vakko L’Atelier is a Parisian-style pâtisserie for breakfast, pastries, chocolates, house-made ice creams and sorbets, and sweet and savoury bites.
Rooms
Twelve rooms in three categories, five rooms, one suite and six two-storey maisonettes, all facing the Bosphorus. Every one has a fireplace, and the suite and maisonettes have marble bathrooms with a steam bath.

Room Bosphorus

Suite Bosphorus
A second-floor suite with a bedroom and a separate lounge with fireplace, its windows framing some of the finest views of the Bosphorus. Marble bathroom with steam bath and rain shower.
Maisonette Bosphorus
A two-storey maisonette with a king-size bed, a lounge with fireplace and a marble bathroom with steam bath and rain shower. The private garden terrace has a dining table for two and two sunloungers.
