About this hotel
General information
Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul occupies a historic 1930s building on the European shore of the Bosphorus in Beşiktaş, a quarter of an hour’s walk from Dolmabahçe Palace. Its 186 rooms and suites carry the brand’s Asian hospitality into an Istanbul setting: interiors in cool, calming tones, lit by chandeliers, borrow from the grandeur of Ottoman palaces and from Asian design, and many windows look straight onto the strait.
Dining centres on Shang Palace, a Cantonese restaurant, and IST TOO with its terrace above the water; afternoon tea is served in the Lobby Lounge and evenings move on to cocktails at Le Bar. The hotel also has Chi, The Spa with its hammam, a health club with an indoor heated pool, a hair and beauty salon, a shopping arcade, a business centre and rooms for conferences and weddings.
Location
The hotel sits by the water in Beşiktaş, next door to the Naval Museum and close to the financial district and the Istanbul Convention and Exhibition Centre; from the pier in front of the hotel a ferry crosses to Kadıköy on the Asian shore. Istanbul Airport is about 45 minutes by car and Sabiha Gökçen Airport about 90 minutes. The hotel arranges limousine transfers, an airport butler service and helicopter transfers.
Spa
Chi, The Spa draws on both Asian and Turkish bathing and massage traditions. Signature treatments include the Asian Blend massage with warm aromatic oils, Chinese-style acupressure, a sports massage, a four-hand massage and the three-hour Private Your Wellness Journey, which moves from a Turkish bath and foam massage through an organic clay mask to an Asian-inspired treatment with organic oils. The hammam has a shared area with single-gender sessions and a private hammam suite for two; rituals range from the traditional scrub and foam massage to longer versions adding a hair wash and a milk-and-honey moisturising, or organic masks and geranium-rose oil.
Sports & leisure
The health club has modern cardio and weight-training equipment, with whirlpool baths in the changing rooms; there is also an indoor heated pool and a hair and beauty salon. For exploring the city, the hotel points guests to the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapı and Dolmabahçe palaces, the Basilica Cistern, Galata Tower, the Grand Bazaar and the Spice Bazaar, Bebek and Arnavutköy, Yıldız Park and the Princes’ Islands; ferries from the pier outside run along the Bosphorus and over to Kadıköy.
For children
Babysitting is available on request; the health club has a separate children’s pool and IST TOO offers a children’s menu.
Restaurants & bars
Two restaurants, a bar and a lounge:
- Shang Palace — Cantonese cuisine with a list of Turkish and international wines
- IST TOO — all-day dining with a terrace over the Bosphorus: breakfast, sushi, Turkish dishes and international cooking with Mediterranean, Southeast Asian and Japanese touches
- Lobby Lounge — a tearoom blending European and Turkish style, with teas from around the world, pastries and afternoon tea
- Le Bar — signature cocktails, fine spirits and tapas-style plates for sharing
- In-room dining — around the clock
Swimming
The hotel has no beach of its own. The health club has an indoor heated pool and a separate children’s pool.
