The Peninsula Istanbul

About this hotel

General information

The Peninsula Istanbul occupies a stretch of the Bosphorus waterfront in Karaköy, the old harbour quarter on Istanbul’s European shore that now forms part of the Galataport promenade. The hotel spans four buildings – three historic and carefully restored, one contemporary – linked by gardens and terraces, and it can be reached by road or straight from the water.

Interiors pair a quiet contemporary look with Turkish detail: bespoke furniture, local textiles, marble and artwork throughout the rooms. The hotel is known for dining with views over the Bosphorus and the old city, for a spa with hammams and a 25-metre indoor pool beneath illuminated domes, and for an outdoor pool right at the water’s edge. Guests may check in from 6 am and keep their room until 10 pm, a house rule across every Peninsula hotel.

Location

The hotel sits on the Bosphorus in Karaköy, in the Beyoğlu district, near Galata Tower, with views from its windows and terraces across the strait to the old city. The airport is about 45 km away, and guests can also arrive by water.

Spa

The Peninsula Spa occupies a marble-clad lower level of the main heritage building. It has eight treatment rooms, two of them for couples, separate saunas, relaxation rooms and hammams for men and women, and a quiet tea lounge where treatments begin. The menu covers therapeutic massage, aromatherapy, and face and body treatments; the signature is an age-defying MBR facial. The spa is open daily from early morning until late evening.

Sports & leisure

The fitness centre, with cardio and resistance equipment, is open to hotel guests around the clock and hosts classes, workshops and guided activities. The Peninsula Academy introduces the city through curated outings, among them an art walk through the Ottoman era – from Iznik tiles to calligraphy – and a photography walk through Istanbul’s streets. Guests can also swim in the waterfront outdoor pool or the indoor pool in the spa.

Restaurants & bars

Each of the hotel’s restaurants and its bar looks out over the Bosphorus.

  • The Lobby – a high-ceilinged room on the ground floor of the main building serving Mediterranean dishes from breakfast to dinner, the signature Peninsula Afternoon Tea daily and a Sunday brunch with live music, also on the outdoor terrace
  • GALLADA – a rooftop restaurant with Turkish-Asian cooking inspired by the Silk Road and views across the Bosphorus and the old city
  • Topside Bar – a cocktail bar on the same floor, styled like the cabin of a vintage yacht, pouring signature cocktails, rare spirits, wines and craft beers with small plates
  • Abelia – an open-air restaurant by the outdoor pool, in season, with international dishes, three private cabanas with dining tables and DJ sets from late afternoon
Swimming

There is no beach; instead the hotel has two pools. Abelia Pool, outdoors, runs along the Bosphorus waterfront, with loungers and private cabanas facing the strait and the old city. Indoors, the heated 25-metre pool in the spa is ringed by marble columns and lit by a row of illuminated domes.

Rooms

Rooms and suites in nineteen categories are spread across the four waterfront buildings, looking out over Karaköy, the gardens or the Bosphorus. Some ground-floor rooms have their own garden terraces, and several suites come with balconies, terraces or a rooftop garden.

In each room

Each room has digital bedside and wall panels for lighting, curtains, climate and TV (seven languages to choose from), IPTV with Chromecast, free high-speed internet and international calls, a printer-scanner, a work desk, a dressing area, coffee and tea facilities, a minibar, and a marble bathroom with separate shower, bathtub and washlet toilet, TV and radio, bathrobes and slippers and a nail dryer, plus 24-hour room service and shoe shining.
