Mandarin Oriental Bosphorus, Istanbul

About this hotel

General information

Mandarin Oriental Bosphorus, Istanbul occupies a stretch of the European shore of the Bosphorus at Kuruçeşme, where landscaped gardens and quiet courtyards run down to the water. The hotel describes itself as an urban resort — a city address with the room of a waterfront estate — and its architecture takes its cue from the old mansions and palaces that line the strait.

Inside, the design reads as a modern take on Istanbul’s layered heritage: a sunlit lobby with marble floors and sculpted wooden panels that echo the movement of waves, rooms finished in natural wood, leather and metal, and a 3,500 m² spa laid out around an elliptical Zen garden. Rooms and suites look over the Bosphorus, the gardens or a calm courtyard. Alongside an Italian restaurant, a waterfront lounge with private cabanas and a cake shop, there are outdoor padel courts, a kids’ club, a grand ballroom with two smaller ones, and a garden for events.

Location

The hotel stands on Muallim Naci Caddesi in Kuruçeşme, Beşiktaş, on the European side of the Bosphorus between Ortaköy and Bebek: Ortaköy’s waterfront square and mosque are close at hand, and Bebek’s promenade, cafés and boutiques a few minutes away. Dolmabahçe Palace, Galata Tower and the historic peninsula with Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and Topkapı Palace are an easy drive or boat ride. Istanbul Airport is about 40 km away and Sabiha Gökçen, on the Asian side, about 45 km; the concierge arranges transfers with VIP fast-track, and valet parking is available.

Spa

The Spa spreads over 3,500 m² of high ceilings and daylit interior gardens, with 11 treatment rooms (most with their own changing and shower areas), three hammams with separate facilities for men and women, a sauna, steam room, rainforest showers, a jacuzzi and an indoor pool opening onto the garden. A circular relaxation room looks onto the spa garden, and a private treatment suite has its own garden, jacuzzi and Amphibia beds. The menu pairs traditional Turkish hammam rituals with Thai massage, lymphatic drainage, facials and contemporary therapies, and the products used are sold in the spa boutique. Spa and gym are open to guests aged 16 and over.

Sports & leisure

The daylit fitness centre has Technogym cardio and weight equipment and its own outdoor garden, alongside a Pilates studio, a spinning room, a meditation room and group yoga; personal trainers also hold sessions in guests’ rooms. Outdoor padel courts with Bosphorus views are available for open play or private coaching. At weekends a trainer leads a morning run along the water to Bebek Park, and the concierge arranges private yacht trips on the Bosphorus — including a fishing cruise whose catch is then cooked at Olea & Bar — as well as museum visits around the city.

For children

The Kids Club takes children aged 4–12, with a supervised calendar of painting, puppet making, arts and crafts and games. Young guests also have their own pool, a 30-minute children’s hammam treatment with gentle products, a children’s afternoon tea and pizza-making workshops (ages 5+) on selected weekends; every restaurant has a children’s menu, and the concierge plans family outings such as aquarium and museum visits.

Restaurants & bars

The hotel’s restaurants and lounges face the water, with a smart casual dress code throughout.

  • Olea & Bar — Italian cooking from every region of Italy, family-recipe pastas and mains, tables among olive trees, a deep Italian wine list and a cocktail bar with Bosphorus views
  • Bosphorus Lounge — the lobby lounge with an open-air waterfront terrace, for afternoon tea, Turkish coffee, light dishes and cocktails
  • Bosphorus Lounge Cabanas — private cabanas on the shore, open all year, with food, drinks and shisha
  • The Mandarin Cake Shop — celebration cakes, artisan chocolates, pâtisserie and Turkish sweets
  • In-Room Dining — Turkish and international dishes around the clock
Swimming

In season a 20-metre outdoor lap pool overlooks the Bosphorus, with drinks and light dishes served poolside. The spa’s indoor pool is lit by daylight and opens onto the garden, with a jacuzzi alongside, and there is a separate children’s pool. The hotel sits right on the waterfront but has no beach of its own.

Pets

Well-behaved pets are welcome in selected rooms; size limits and conditions should be agreed with the hotel in advance.
