General information
Shangri-La Far Eastern, Tainan occupies a round-fronted high-rise directly opposite Tainan Station, its upper floors looking out over the old city and the campus of National Cheng Kung University. There are 331 rooms and suites, averaging about 50 m², with Asian-inspired décor and contemporary accents, and the address suits walks through the historic quarters as well as business meetings.
The hotel is arranged vertically: a lobby lounge and bakery at street level, an open-kitchen buffet restaurant on the tenth floor, a health club, Valmont spa and heart-shaped outdoor pool set in tropical planting on the seventh, the Horizon Club lounge on the 24th, and the Chinese restaurant Shanghai Pavilion on the 38th, with the city spread out below. It works equally for business and for family stays, with a ballroom for 1,000 guests, an amphitheatre-style auditorium and babysitting on request.
Location
The hotel stands on University Road in Tainan’s East District, across from Tainan Station — about a minute’s walk from Exit 2 — next to National Cheng Kung University, with the tower linked to a department store. Tainan Airport is around 20 minutes by car, Tainan high-speed rail station about 25 minutes and Kaohsiung International Airport 50–60 minutes. The hotel arranges airport pick-up by limousine on request, at least a day ahead; taxis are also available.
Spa
The seventh-floor spa works with Valmont, the Swiss cellular skincare house. The menu covers facials, body treatments, Shangri-La exclusive rituals and short add-ons; the brand’s signature Butterfly Motion technique pairs concentrated formulas with massage set to alpine melodies. The spa is open Friday to Wednesday, from noon to 9pm. The adjoining health club has saunas, steam rooms and hot and cold plunge pools, for guests aged 12 and over.
Sports & leisure
The seventh-floor health club has cardio and strength equipment, a separate aerobics and yoga room and saunas, open 6am–10pm. On the same level is the heart-shaped outdoor pool, framed by tropical greenery and open 7am–9.30pm. For business travellers there is a business centre on the 24th floor, conference rooms on the ninth and a ballroom for 1,000.
For children
A children’s pool and play area sit beside the outdoor pool. Babysitting and childcare can be arranged on request.
Restaurants & bars
Four venues, plus 24-hour in-room dining:
- Shanghai Pavilion — Chinese restaurant on the 38th floor with views across Tainan: Jiangnan and Shanghainese cooking, Taiwanese dishes and Cantonese dim sum, with vegetarian set menus and a gluten-free menu
- Café at Far Eastern — open-kitchen buffet on the tenth floor, mixing Tainan specialities with international dishes, seafood, grills and vegetarian choices; breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus an à la carte menu
- Lobby Lounge — lounge off the lobby for afternoon tea, English high tea booked in advance, and cocktails with canapés in the evening
- The Shop — ground-floor bakery with fresh bread, pastries, cakes, sandwiches and deli items to eat in or take away
Swimming
No beach. The heart-shaped outdoor pool on the seventh floor is set in a tropical garden, with a separate children’s pool alongside. Children under 12 or under 130 cm must swim with an adult within arm’s reach.
Pets
Pets are not accepted; assistance dogs are welcome.
Rooms
331 rooms and suites of 39–196 m², all with city views and Asian-inspired interiors with contemporary touches. Horizon rooms and suites include the Horizon Club lounge on the 24th floor, with private check-in and check-out, late departure up to 4pm when available, breakfast, drinks through the day, evening snacks and a dedicated concierge.
Rooms have feather duvets and pillows with a pillow menu (hypoallergenic options), a bathroom with a soaking tub and separate shower, Shangri-La toiletries, a hairdryer, satellite TV, a writing desk, a safe, bedside light and curtain controls, and tea- and coffee-making facilities.

Deluxe Room

Executive Family Room
