About this hotel
General information
Mandarin Oriental, Taipei stands on tree-lined Dunhua North Road in the Songshan district, its European-inspired architecture a recognisable presence on the city skyline. There are 256 rooms and 47 suites, and the interiors pair European classicism with understated Asian motifs: bespoke artwork, handcrafted finishes, made-to-order furniture and generous marble bathrooms, with windows looking out over leafy boulevards or the hotel’s European-style courtyard.
Food is a large part of the draw. The Cantonese restaurant Ya Ge, the Italian Bencotto, the Art Deco M.O. Bar, The Jade Lounge for afternoon tea and the hotel’s own patisserie are all under one roof. The sixth floor holds The Oriental Lounge for Club guests and a heated outdoor pool set in a garden, reached through The Spa with its twelve treatment suites. For celebrations and events there is the pillarless 960 m² Grand Ballroom with a 7.3-metre ceiling, the 500 m² Mandarin Ballroom and several smaller rooms.
Location
The hotel sits on Dunhua North Road in Songshan, a business district of Taipei, about a 10-minute walk from Nanjing Fuxing and Taipei Arena metro stations; Taipei Arena itself is 8–10 minutes on foot and the Breeze Nanjing mall about 10 minutes. Taipei 101 and the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park are 10–15 minutes by car, the National Palace Museum 20–25 minutes. Songshan Airport is about 2 km away (5–10 minutes by car), and Taoyuan International Airport about 40 km: 35–50 minutes by car, or 60–70 minutes on the airport metro line to Taipei Main Station and then the green line. The concierge arranges limousine transfers on request before arrival.
Spa
The Spa has 12 treatment suites: two VIP suites, each with a vitality pool, private steam shower and relaxation area, plus couples’ and single rooms. Separate heat and water areas for men and women include a vitality pool with air-jet loungers heated to 35 °C, a crystal steam room at 45 °C, a dry sauna at 85 °C and a relaxation lounge. The menu features Time Rituals, in which the therapist shapes a treatment to fit a booked length of time; Oriental Qi, a meridian massage with essential oils; the Essence of Taiwan collection of longer rituals with white-clay wraps, exfoliation and scalp and face scraping; the Deep Sleep massage; singing-bowl sound therapy; and treatments for mothers-to-be from 12 weeks. Facials use Biologique Recherche, Natura Bissé and Valmont. The spa, fitness and wellness facilities are open to guests aged 16 and over.
Sports & leisure
The Technogym fitness centre is open around the clock and staffed from 7am to 8pm; programmes begin with a body composition analysis, followed by a personalised training plan. There is a yoga studio with classes, wellness and lifestyle consultations and the heated outdoor pool on the sixth floor. The concierge helps plan day tours and cultural outings around the city, including family-friendly ones.
For children
Young guests can join the Little Fans Culinary Academy cooking class, and a children’s tipi tent with a colouring kit can be set up in the room. The concierge also suggests family day tours of Taipei suited to children’s ages.
