Grand Hi-Lai Hotel

About this hotel

General information

Grand Hi-Lai Hotel occupies a 186-metre neoclassical tower in Kaohsiung's business centre, its upper floors looking out over the city and the harbour. The interiors follow the same classical line, with carefully considered décor. There are 540 rooms and suites, executive floors with their own lounge, a conference centre and a ballroom, while the Hanshin department store fills the lower part of the complex.

Food is what the hotel is best known for: 13 Chinese, Western and Japanese restaurants under one roof, from Cantonese dim sum and Taiwanese dishes to teppanyaki and a steakhouse on the 45th floor. Its other pride is an art collection of more than three thousand pieces, over twenty of them on show in the public spaces, among them European porcelain, a bronze clock and Rococo furniture, Chinese lacquer screens and bronzes.

Location

The hotel stands on Chenggong 1st Road in Qianjin District, in the busy business centre of Kaohsiung, close to the harbour and the Love River. Light rail station C10 is about a 7-minute walk away and Central Park MRT station (R9) 10–15 minutes on foot; the MRT Red Line runs there directly from both Kaohsiung International Airport and Zuoying high-speed rail station. By car, the airport is about 20 minutes away and the railway station about 10 minutes. A hotel shuttle from Zuoying high-speed rail station comes with selected stay packages and must be booked by 8 pm the day before.

Spa

The bathing area of the International Health Club on the 11th floor is separate for men and women, with cold, hot and room-temperature pools, a spa pool, a steam room, a sauna, a herbal tea corner and a relaxation room. The sauna follows the Japanese tradition, bathing is nude, and children under 14 are not admitted. A registered nurse on the same floor offers health consultations and blood pressure checks.

Sports & leisure

Sport is centred on the International Health Club on the 11th floor. The 24-hour gym has a cardio zone with treadmills, stair climbers, elliptical trainers and exercise bikes, a strength zone and a separate cycling area; there is also an aerobics studio and a squash court. For runners, the hotel suggests the harbourfront nearby. The gym is open to guests aged 14 and over.

The hotel has 13 restaurants and bars serving Chinese, Western and Japanese food, spread from the lobby to the 45th floor.
