General information
Villa Principe Leopoldo occupies an elegant villa on the Collina d’Oro, the Golden Hill above Lake Lugano. Set in its own park, the estate once belonged to Prince Friedrich Leopold of Prussia and still keeps a refined atmosphere in which Mediterranean and Italian styles intertwine. It opened as a hotel in 1986 and is a member of Relais & Châteaux.
The suites look out over the lake, the mountains and the park. A restaurant recognised by Gault&Millau is joined by a piano bar and a terrace lounge, a spa, a fitness centre, two pools and tennis courts. Six function rooms for up to 250 guests and a business centre serve meetings and celebrations, and the hotel arranges weddings and programmes for newlyweds.
Location
The hotel stands on the Golden Hill above Lugano, 2 km from the town’s railway station and regional airport and 45 minutes by car from Milan Malpensa International Airport.
Spa
DOT Spa has a jacuzzi, sauna, hammam and modern treatment rooms. Face and body programmes use products by Natura Bissé, Cellcosmet, Cellmen, Marius Fabre and OPI.
Sports & leisure
The grounds include two heated outdoor pools, open from May to September, and two synthetic-surface tennis courts. The fitness centre has strength and cardio equipment, with personal training available, and outdoor activities and excursions can be arranged.

Restaurants & bars
The hotel has a gastronomic restaurant and two bars:
- Principe Leopoldo — gastronomic restaurant by chef Dario Ranza, with lake views and 17 Gault&Millau points
- Piano bar — cocktails and aperitifs to live music
- Principe — a lounge bar on the terrace overlooking Lake Lugano, for fine-weather days

All 37 rooms are suites, furnished in the manner of an aristocratic villa, with windows and terraces facing the lake, the mountains and the park.

Princess Garden Suite
A corner suite with bedroom, living room, a bathroom with jacuzzi, shower and separate WC, and a terrace facing the garden; Nespresso machine included.
Signature Lake Suite
The largest suite, below the villa’s main terrace: entrance hall, bedroom, a large living room with dining area, a bathroom with jacuzzi and hammam, two WCs and a furnished terrace with panoramic views of the lake and the park; Nespresso machine included.
