About this hotel
General information
Tschuggen Grand Hotel sits on the mountainside above Arosa, at the edge of the forest and some 1,800 metres above sea level. Part of The Tschuggen Collection, it opens for a winter and a summer season. Its signature is the 5,000 m² Tschuggen Bergoase spa by Mario Botta: four floors set into the slope, crowned by glass sails known as the light trees. Vogue has named it among the world’s hundred best spas.
A private mountain railway, the Tschuggen Express, carries guests to the slopes and trails of Arosa Lenzerheide in a few minutes, making the hotel ski-in, ski-out in winter. La Brezza, Marco Campanella’s gourmet restaurant, holds two Michelin stars and 19 GaultMillau points, and the holistic Moving Mountains programme ties together spa, movement, nutrition and guided time outdoors.
Location
The hotel stands above the village of Arosa in the canton of Graubünden, reached via Sonnenbergstrasse. Drivers from Zurich take the A3 to Chur; by rail, trains run to Chur, where the Arosa Express departs hourly, and the hotel shuttle meets guests at Arosa station. The concierge can arrange a limousine from Zurich Airport.
Spa
Tschuggen Bergoase spans 5,000 m² over four floors: indoor and outdoor leisure pools at 34 °C, a 15-metre fitness pool, a children’s pool, warm and cold Kneipp pools, whirlpool features and a grotto with a waterfall. The sauna area has a mixed zone with a mountain sauna, steam bath, sanarium and cold plunge, plus a separate ladies’ area. The Moving Mountains Spa concept relies on organic and certified natural products, with massages, detox body treatments, facials, nails, a hair salon and a La Biosthétique head spa. Two private spa suites, Muscida and Polaris, each have their own sauna, steam bath and whirlpool. From 6 pm the spa is reserved for guests aged 14 and over.
Sports & leisure
The Technogym-equipped gym is open around the clock, alongside spaces for yoga and meditation, a daily programme of classes and reformer Pilates. Winter brings skiing, sledging, snowshoeing, horse-drawn carriage rides and cross-country skiing; summer, 140 signposted hiking trails from the door, mountain biking in the Bike Kingdom and alpine lakes, with the Arosa Card covering the mountain railways. An Outdoor Butler leads the Moving Mountains programme of sunrise hikes, ice bathing, night sledging, forest walks and tailor-made outings.
For children
The nature-themed Kids Club, for ages 3 to 15, has a climbing wall at the entrance, a treehouse, reading and craft corners, wooden rather than plastic toys and activities such as tracking animal prints, baking biscuits and making soap. Older children have their own Teens Club with a games table. The spa has a children’s pool and treatments from age six, young guests get their own bathrobes, cots are free and babysitting can be booked in advance.
