The Alpina Gstaad

About this hotel

General information

Opened in December 2012, The Alpina Gstaad sits a ten-minute walk from the Gstaad Promenade, among mountains and a garden laid out by landscape designer Jean Mus. The boutique hotel blends contemporary European chic with the charm of the Bernese Oberland: interiors by well-known designers bring carved softwood panelling, antique furniture and stone fireplaces, and balconies look out to the Bernese Alps and the Diablerets glacier.

There are fine-dining restaurants, a stylish bar, a wine cellar of rare vintages and a cigar lounge. The Six Senses Spa is a particular point of pride, with indoor and outdoor pools, a hydrotherapy area and a salt room. The hotel also has a 14-seat cinema, a kids’ club, three meeting rooms and a 240 m² ballroom for 170 guests, the Lorenz Bach ski shop, a hair salon and a free shuttle to the lifts.

Location

The hotel is a ten-minute walk from Gstaad’s main pedestrian street, 15 minutes by car from the regional airport and about an hour and a half from Bern-Belp International Airport.

Spa

The 2,000 m² Six Senses Spa has a 25-metre indoor pool with lighting and waterfalls, a children’s pool with slide, two Jacuzzis, steam rooms, saunas, hydromassage showers, an inhalation room lined with Himalayan salt, a fitness centre, yoga and Pilates studio, a relaxation area with vitamin bar and a spa boutique. Its 12 treatment rooms include an oriental suite with herbal steam room, a hammam, an Ayurvedic room with steam, chromotherapy and flotation rooms, a women’s section and a couples’ room. Treatments combine Asian techniques with innovative technology, and there are classes in fitness, yoga, meditation, Pilates and aqua aerobics.

Sports & leisure

A heated outdoor pool sits in the garden, and the hotel arranges film screenings, entertainment, wine tastings and excursions. The Gstaad area offers downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, sledging, skating, mountaineering, hiking, mountain biking, riding, paragliding, golf, tennis, rafting and fishing. Skis and equipment can be hired at the Lorenz Bach ski shop.

For children

The Tree House kids’ club has a playroom and a full programme of activities. The spa adds a children’s pool with slide and a children’s “beach” in the salt room; babysitting is available on request.

Restaurants & bars

The kitchens range from Japan to Alpine haute cuisine and Swiss classics.

  • Megu — Japanese cuisine, sushi, sashimi and sake in an interior by Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance, 16 GaultMillau points
  • Sommet — gastronomic restaurant in carved Alpine wood, one Michelin star and 18 GaultMillau points, more than 400 wines and a summer terrace facing the mountains
