About this hotel
General information
Suvretta House opened on 16 December 1912, the vision of hotel pioneer Anton Bon, who realised his mountain grand hotel with the Swiss architect Karl Koller. The founder’s descendants have run it ever since; today it is in the hands of the Candrian-Bon family, and seven generations of hoteliers have kept its reputation as a family-run home away from home.
The 176 rooms and suites pair alpine chic with a certain British understatement, and many have connecting doors for families. The hotel opens for a winter season and a summer-to-autumn season and keeps its long-standing rituals: an in-house bakery turns out more than 50 breads and pastries each morning, afternoon tea is served in the lobby to live piano, and the Grand Restaurant holds to a formal evening dress code. The grounds also hold the Regina Pacis chapel and Zegna and Fedeli Cashmere boutiques, and a new Suvretta Spa opened in December 2025.
Location
The hotel stands on the sunny Suvretta slope above St. Moritz in the Upper Engadine, at over 1,800 m, facing the lakes and mountains. Engadin Airport in Samedan is 8.5 km away; Zurich Airport is 215 km (about 2.5 hours by car, or 3 hours 45 minutes by train via Chur on the Rhaetian Railway), Milan 170 km and Munich 280 km. Guests can be collected from St. Moritz station on request.
Spa
The Suvretta Spa, opened in December 2025, covers more than 4,670 m² over three and a half floors. It brings together an alpine herbal sauna, a classic and an infrared sauna, a steam bath, a Kneipp circuit, a glacial cold pool for cryo recovery, experience showers and “Bergsee” relaxation rooms looking down the valley, along with a separate ladies’ sauna with bio sauna, steam bath and cold pool. Treatments use Cellcosmet, ilā and Sisley, massages are given on Gharieni tables, and there is a hair salon offering Shu Uemura care as well as the Suvretta Spa Lounge for juices and light dishes.
Sports & leisure
Sport at Suvretta House follows the seasons:
- a panoramic gym with Technogym equipment, and group or private Pilates Reformer classes with THE BEAT
- the hotel’s own ice rink with a coach, and curling — the hotel’s guest curling club dates from 1912
- three clay tennis courts in front of the hotel, with a pro and a ball machine
- golf: a practice course, driving range, putting greens in the park and a golf school, with three courses nearby
- free bikes for guests, from mountain and downhill bikes to fat bikes and e-bikes
- the summer Fit and Fun programme of bike tours, canyoning, sailing on Lake Sils and hikes up Piz Nair, Corvatsch and Diavolezza
- a weekly Wednesday picnic in summer, with risotto cooked by a Suvretta chef over an open fire
For children
The Kiddy Club takes children from three years, supervised by multilingual nursery staff; in summer the playground in front of the hotel is the base, in winter the garden with a large ice sculpture of caves and slides. The Teddy Club is a dedicated children’s restaurant with supervised meals. The new spa has its own Kids Water World with a children’s pool, and just above the hotel the Suvretta Kids Ski School teaches on a children’s slope.
Restaurants & bars
The restaurants and bars run from formal dinners to lunch on a mountain terrace:
- Grand Restaurant — chef Fabrizio Zanetti’s market-fresh French cuisine with an international touch, 17 GaultMillau points; jacket and tie in the evening
- Suvretta Stube & Sun Terrace — relaxed Swiss and Grisons dishes in a lighter style alongside Suvretta classics, 14 GaultMillau points
- Chasellas — mountain restaurant with Alpine-Mediterranean cooking and a sun terrace, 15 GaultMillau points
- Trutz — mountain restaurant on the slopes with views over the Engadine
- Hotel Lobby & Anton’s Bar — the Full English Suvretta House Afternoon Tea in the lobby, cigars and house gin and tonics at the bar
- Suvretta Club Bar — club-style bar beside the lobby
- Chef’s Table — a private dinner in the heart of the kitchen
Swimming
The spa has a heated 17.5-metre outdoor infinity pool at 34 °C with massage loungers and hydro jets, a 25-metre indoor semi-Olympic pool at 28.5 °C with a springboard, a children’s pool at 32 °C and a jacuzzi.
Skiing
Suvretta House is a ski-in, ski-out hotel with its own private ski lift, the only hotel in St. Moritz with private access to the Corviglia ski area. Guests can reach 350 km of pistes between 1,800 and 3,300 m, 60 lifts and four ski areas; passes are sold without queuing at the in-house Suvretta Sports Alpine Center.
