General information
Splendide Royal occupies an elegant Art Nouveau building on the shore of Lake Lugano, a few minutes’ walk from the town centre. It opened in 1877 on the site of the aristocratic Villa Merlina, simply as the Hotel Splendide, and took its present name in 1924 after years of receiving royalty and society — Victor Emmanuel of Savoy, the King of Belgium and the Duke of Edinburgh, and later Ella Fitzgerald, Luciano Pavarotti, Woody Allen and Sophia Loren.
A palatial mood runs from the rooms to the restaurant and piano bar, and almost every corner looks out over the lake, the gardens and the peaks of Monte San Salvatore and Monte Brè. Three function rooms for 16 to 250 guests and a business centre serve meetings and celebrations, and the hotel arranges weddings with programmes for newlyweds.
Location
The hotel is a few minutes’ walk from the centre of Lugano, 10 minutes by car from the railway station, 20 minutes from Lugano’s regional airport and about an hour from Milan Malpensa International Airport.

The 93 rooms — 39 Superior, 47 Deluxe, four Junior Suites and three suites — pair palatial decor with modern comfort, and windows and balconies look out over Lake Lugano and the Alps.

On the fourth floor, with a spacious living room and dining area for four, a marble bathroom, guest shower room, dressing room and a balcony with panoramic views of the lake and the Alps. An adjoining room can be added.
Presidential Suite
High ceilings, frescoes and Murano glass chandeliers; bedroom, generous living room, large marble bathroom with bath and separate shower, guest cloakroom, dressing room and a terrace with lounge and dining areas and panoramic views of the lake and the Alps. An adjoining room can be added.
