Mandarin Oriental, Geneva

About this hotel

General information

Mandarin Oriental, Geneva opened on 14 July 1950 as the Hôtel du Rhône, the first luxury hotel built in Europe after the Second World War. Architect Marc J. Saugey gave it a modular, accordion-like form on the right bank of the Rhône, and its lobby soon filled with diplomats, royalty, artists and business leaders as Geneva grew into a capital of diplomacy. The hotel joined Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group in 2000.

Today it has 178 rooms and suites: 143 rooms with marble bathrooms and 35 suites, many with terraces and river views. Interiors are contemporary, drawing on the river and the mountains, with curated Swiss artwork in the suites. Dining is shaped by SACHI, a Japanese restaurant with an omakase bar, Ottolenghi’s first restaurant outside the UK and the MO Bar, while wellness centres on an Ambassade Biologique Recherche, a 24-hour fitness centre and La Barbière de Paris.

Location

The hotel stands on Quai Turrettini, on the right bank of the Rhône in central Geneva, within walking distance of the Old Town, St Peter’s Cathedral, the Jet d’Eau, the lake and the shops of Rue du Rhône. Geneva Airport is 5–7 km away, around 15–20 minutes by road, and the hotel has on-site parking with valet service.

Spa

The Ambassade Biologique Recherche offers personalised face, body and scalp treatments based on the Biologique Recherche method. A sauna and hammam, with separate areas for men and women, sit in the fitness area, and La Barbière de Paris, the brand’s first address in Switzerland, specialises in men’s grooming.

Sports & leisure

The refurbished fitness centre is open around the clock, with TechnoGym equipment, a strength area, free weights, a connected bike and a studio with a smart mirror that guides and corrects each movement, plus a small corner with fresh fruit and drinks. A private yoga studio is available for one-to-one sessions, and the concierge helps plan time in Geneva.

For children

Interconnecting family rooms and suites are available, children aged 12 and under get a complimentary rollaway bed, and cots, bouncing chairs and bottle warmers can be provided. Young guests have their own check-in, a tipi and colouring books in the room, a Heidi soft toy, family movie nights and children’s menus in every restaurant.

Restaurants & bars

Two restaurants, an omakase bar and a cocktail bar sit above the Rhône, and in-room dining runs 24 hours.

  • SACHI — Japanese cooking by chef Mitsuru Tsukada, trained under Nobu Matsuhisa: sushi, black cod with yuzu miso, wagyu
  • Omakase by SACHI — a ten-seat omakase bar with menus of six, eight or ten courses and sake pairings
  • Ottolenghi — Yotam Ottolenghi’s first restaurant outside the UK: vegetable-led Mediterranean cooking over a live-fire grill, with fermentation and Swiss produce; breakfast is also served here
  • MO Bar — signature cocktails and mocktails by head bartender Christophe Pinto, tapas, a pastry trolley and a terrace
Pets

Dogs up to 15 kg are welcome, with dedicated amenities; the hotel asks to be told in advance.
