About this hotel
General information
Lausanne Palace opened in 1915 in the heart of Lausanne, the Olympic capital, and has been part of the city’s life ever since, looking across Lake Geneva to the Alps. Its interiors keep a classic, faintly British elegance — a lobby centred on a stylised tree, a lift that seems to belong in a London mansion, plush corridors — and every room is individually decorated with its own seating area. Coco Chanel was a long-time guest and Juan Antonio Samaranch, former President of the IOC, lived here; both now give their names to suites.
The hotel has 142 rooms and suites. Dining is led by the two-Michelin-starred La Table, alongside a Parisian brasserie, a Nikkei restaurant, a winter-garden breakfast room and two bars. The 2,100 m² spa has an indoor pool, and fourteen modular rooms for 5 to 300 people plus a conference centre make the Palace a natural venue for events.
Location
The hotel is on Rue du Grand-Chêne in central Lausanne, 500 m from the main railway station and a short walk from Lausanne-Flon metro station and the Flon district, with the Old Town and its Gothic cathedral close by. Geneva Airport is 40 minutes away by train or car, and limousine transfers can be arranged.
Spa
The 2,100 m² spa brings together a heated indoor pool, a jacuzzi, sauna, hammam, therapeutic bath and a fitness room. Face and body treatments use Biologique Recherche and Cinq Mondes, while the Hair Spa by Aveda offers haircare and a Japanese Head Spa, a deeply relaxing scalp ritual.
Sports & leisure
The fitness room is open to hotel guests 24 hours a day, and the pool from early morning until late evening. Lausanne is a good base for CGN paddle-steamer cruises on Lake Geneva past lakeside castles and the UNESCO-listed Lavaux vineyard terraces, for the Vallorbe caves and for the Olympic Museum. Tennis, golf, water-skiing, windsurfing and riding are all within reach, the ski slopes are 45 minutes away, and the hotel arranges tailor-made excursions with a driver.
For children
Children aged three and over may use the heated indoor pool with a parent at set times. The Junior Suite City View sleeps up to four and two junior suites can be linked, and the Sunday brunch at Le Côté Jardin is a family occasion.
Restaurants & bars
Four restaurants and two bars cover everything from haute cuisine to coffee in the lobby.
- La Table du Lausanne Palace — contemporary French cooking by chef Franck Pelux built on local produce, with two Michelin stars and 17/20 from Gault&Millau and a panorama over the rooftops, the lake and the mountains
- La Brasserie du Grand Chêne — classic Parisian brasserie with seasonal specialities and a strong list of Swiss wines, Chasselas above all; a table d’hôte for up to 14 faces the kitchen pass
- Matcha Picchu — Nikkei cuisine, Peruvian flavours meeting Japanese technique
- Le Côté Jardin — breakfast and Sunday brunch in a winter-garden room with a large terrace
- LP’s Bar — signature cocktails and a tasting menu of small plates
- Bar 1915 — lobby bar named after the hotel’s opening year, for coffee and unhurried meetings
Swimming
Swimming is in the spa’s heated indoor pool, with a jacuzzi alongside.
