Kulm Hotel St. Moritz

About this hotel

General information

Kulm Hotel St. Moritz was the resort’s first hotel, opened in 1858 by Johannes Badrutt, who turned the modest Faller guesthouse into a grand address. Badrutt made a wager with English friends who doubted St. Moritz could ever become a winter resort — and won: the town grew into one of Switzerland’s most famous ski destinations, and the hotel into a setting for masked balls, music festivals and lavish celebrations. Electric light arrived here in 1878, and during the 1928 and 1948 Winter Olympics the hotel housed the competitors.

Today Kulm pairs that heritage with contemporary service: elegant rooms, the 2,000 m² Kulm Spa, indoor and outdoor pools, a golf academy, tennis courts, an ice rink, a children’s club, GaultMillau-recognised restaurants and après-ski bars. Six function rooms host 50 to 500 guests, with butler and concierge service, limousines, a garage and car hire. In the evening, jacket and tie are expected for men in the restaurants.

Location

The hotel is in the very centre of St. Moritz, a 10-minute walk from the railway station, 220 km from Zurich and 180 km from Milan.

Spa

The 2,000 m² Kulm Spa has a heated 20-metre indoor pool with panoramic windows, a heated outdoor pool, a children’s pool, whirlpool, steam room, Finnish sauna and bio-sauna, a salt grotto, a Kneipp foot bath, an infrared cabin, a gym with mountain views, a relaxation area and 13 treatment rooms. Among them is a Private Spa Suite for two with sauna, steam room, whirlpool and water bed. Face and body treatments are built around natural Alpine products.

Sports & leisure

On site are the pools, a golf academy with a 9-hole course and practice areas, three tennis courts, an ice rink and curling sheets. Beyond the hotel lie downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, mountaineering, golf and mountain biking, along with entertainment and excursions. Skis, ski gear and tennis and golf equipment can be hired at the hotel.

For children

The Marmotta club for children aged 3–12 runs games, entertainment and sports programmes. There is a children’s pool in the spa and a children’s menu, and babysitting is available on request.

The hotel has one of the broadest dining line-ups in the resort.

  • Grand Restaurant — elegant dining room with regional and international cuisine
  • The K — GaultMillau-recognised gastronomic restaurant blending French and Mediterranean traditions
  • Pizzeria — trattoria with Italian dishes and freshly baked pizza
