Gstaad Palace

About this hotel

General information

A white castle on the hillside above the tiny village of Gstaad, Gstaad Palace is framed by Alpine peaks, forests and the chalets of the old town. Its story began in 1913, and from the start it has drawn politicians, business leaders, writers, artists and performers. From 1938 three generations of the Scherz family owned and nurtured the hotel, preserving the feel of a small country estate where attentive service meets opulent interiors and an aristocratic spirit.

Nearly a century of growth has given the hotel six restaurants and three bars, four outdoor tennis courts and a squash court, and a spa with indoor and outdoor pools. A 240 m² ballroom and four meeting rooms host business and private events, and there are boutiques, a gift shop and a garage. Le Restaurant and Le Grill ask for smart casual dress, with a jacket for men in the evening.

Location

The hotel is in Gstaad, at the centre of the Saanenland region. Bern is 91 km away (about an hour by car or two hours by train), Geneva 160 km (two hours by road) and Zurich 220 km (around two and a half hours).

Spa

The 1,800 m² spa has an indoor pool, an outdoor pool with Jacuzzi, eight treatment rooms, saunas, steam rooms, a relaxation area and a modern gym. Massages and face and body treatments use Cinq Mondes, Sisley, L.Raphael and Jardin des Monts products.

Sports & leisure

The hotel has four outdoor tennis courts and a squash court. Nearby are indoor courts, the Gstaad-Saanenland golf course and bicycle hire, and in winter downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, skating, tobogganing, mountaineering, curling and snowshoeing. Winter sports equipment can be bought or hired at the hotel.

For children

Children aged 5 to 12 have sports and entertainment programmes, a playroom and a playground; babysitting is available on request.

Restaurants & bars

The six restaurants follow the seasons, from fondue in winter to poolside barbecue in summer.

  • Le Grill — international gastronomic à la carte dining with an open kitchen, live music and dancing in the evening
  • Gildo’s — Italian cooking from every region of Italy and fine wines, named after long-serving maître d’hôtel Gildo Boccini
  • La Fromagerie — Swiss cuisine and fondue in a cosy winter restaurant with checked tablecloths and candlelight
  • Le Restaurant — international cuisine to a soft piano accompaniment
  • La Grande Terrasse — open-air restaurant in the park with mountain views, open in fine weather all year round
  • Snack & Barbecue — snacks and grills beside the indoor pool, summer only
  • Hotel bar — live music, drinks and snacks
  • Lobby bar — a lounge with an open fire and panoramic windows onto the mountains
  • GreenGo — nightclub styled on the discos of the mid-1970s
