About this hotel
General information
Grand Resort Bad Ragaz grew up around the thermal spring of the Tamina Gorge, where warm water was first found in 1242. In 1840 a pipeline some four kilometres long brought the 36.5 °C water down to Ragaz, and from 1868 the architect Bernhard Simon shaped the town into a spa resort, opening Europe’s first indoor thermal bath here in 1871–1872. Today the resort, a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, spreads through parkland ringed by mountains in eastern Switzerland.
It is made up of four hotels, each with its own character: the traditional Grand Hotel Quellenhof, linked directly to the Thermal Spa; the contemporary, easy-going Hof; the Palais, an intimate boutique house in a listed historic palace; and the Tower, a secluded retreat on a rise above the grounds with its own lobby and reception. Around them are five restaurants holding six Michelin stars between them, two golf courses, a casino and the Tamina Health medical centre.
Location
The resort lies in Bad Ragaz in eastern Switzerland, about a kilometre — a ten-minute walk — from the railway station, from which hotel guests ride a free shuttle. Zurich Airport is roughly an hour by car; private jets use St. Gallen-Altenrhein, 45 minutes away, and the Bad Ragaz airfield with its helipad is five minutes’ drive. Transfers from Zurich can be arranged on request.
Spa
The Thermal Spa covers more than 6,050 m² and every pool is filled with thermal water from the Tamina Gorge. There is the 19th-century Helenabad (35 °C, from age 16), a sports pool for lengths and the outdoor Garden Pool facing the Grisons mountains; the Sauna World adds a Finnish sauna, steam room, sanarium, textile salt sauna, an ice grotto and a winter-garden relaxation lounge. Treatments include the signature Tamina Flow full-body massage, alongside a Private Spa, a Family Spa and a hair salon. Hotel guests also have access to the public Tamina Therme, and the Tamina Health centre, working with the Medical Center, runs five health programmes, including a detox.
Sports & leisure
Golf takes centre stage: the 18-hole championship course of Bad Ragaz Golf Club, home of the Swiss Seniors Open, the 9-hole Heidiland executive course and a Golf Academy for lessons. The Grand Hotels Gym has modern equipment, daily classes and personal training. E-mountain bikes and e-city bikes are on hand for rides through the surrounding vineyards and villages, an 18-hole mini-golf course sits in the spa gardens, and tennis, badminton and padel are played at the nearby Bad Ragaz Tennis Club and sports centre. Casino Bad Ragaz is on site, and the resort’s guided signature experiences include a panoramic tour of the Pizol.
For children
The Kids’ Villa (Kindervilla) welcomes children from three years old, with qualified carers, a toddler play area, a children’s library and a craft room; older children and teenagers have a climbing wall, table tennis, air hockey and PlayStation. The daily programme mixes crafts, cooking and outdoor games, and evening care and babysitting can be arranged. In the Family Spa children discover the thermal water through play, and the Hof offers family rooms and a two-bedroom suite.

Pets
Dogs are welcome on a lead, with limited access to public areas: they may join their owners in verve by sven and the Zollstube, in the lobbies and bars, and on the terraces of gladys and the Golf Bistro. In the Grand Hotel Quellenhof pets stay only on the third and fourth floors, and the Palais does not accept them.
