Beau-Rivage Genève

About this hotel

General information

Beau-Rivage Genève was founded in 1865 by Albertine and Jean-Jacques Mayer and has stood on the Quai du Mont-Blanc, facing the Jet d’Eau, ever since. In more than 160 years it has received royalty and maharajahs, writers, diplomats and film stars; Empress Elisabeth of Austria made it her Geneva residence, and suites and penthouses now carry the names of former guests such as Sissi, the Maharaja of Patiala, Charlie Chaplin and Jean Cocteau.

The period building keeps its historic interiors — high ceilings, frescoes and stucco, antique furniture — while the rooms have been brought up to date with modern technology. There are 52 rooms and 43 suites from 30 to 240 m², a legendary wine cellar and Golden Keys concierges, and the hotel holds two MICHELIN Keys.

Location

The hotel is in central Geneva at 13 Quai du Mont-Blanc, looking across Lake Geneva to the Jet d’Eau, a short walk from the English Garden. Cornavin railway station is seven minutes away on foot and Geneva International Airport 30 minutes by car; chauffeured limousine transfers are available on request. Guests can use the hotel’s paid garage, which has electric-car charging points.

Sports & leisure

The lake is the main playground: the concierges help arrange boat trips, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, wakeboarding or a swim at Les Pâquis, as well as a personal shopper along rue du Rhône. Sommeliers lead tastings and food-and-wine pairings in the hotel’s cellar, and Catch & Dine takes guests fishing on Lake Geneva with a private skipper before the kitchen cooks the catch at Rivage Café. The larger suites come with professional yoga mats.

For children

Young guests find welcome touches in their room and a Kids Passport of colouring pages, games and a recipe, and the chef has created a children’s menu. Connecting rooms are available on request, and the concierge suggests family outings nearby: the English Garden and its Flower Clock, the Jet d’Eau, the ‘mouettes’ water taxis and La Grange Park with its playground.

Restaurants & bars

Dining centres on Rivage Café, a bistronomy restaurant and bar led by chef Mathieu Croze. It serves seasonal, locally inspired cooking and weekday business lunches, four- or five-course tasting menus in the evening, tapas-style sharing plates through the day and a Sunday Roast brunch each week. The bar pours signature cocktails, Swiss and international wines and ÈVE, the hotel’s own gin, scented with violet, yuzu, jasmine and Java pepper. The wine cellar holds rare vintages and hosts sommelier-led tastings, and there is in-room dining.

Pets

Dogs and cats are welcome if mentioned at booking; the hotel provides a basket or litter tray and bowls, and the concierge can suggest pet-friendly outings.
