Badrutt’s Palace Hotel

About this hotel

General information

Badrutt’s Palace Hotel is the grand palace hotel of St. Moritz: a building with an unmistakable tower on Via Serlas, in the very centre of the resort, set on the slope above Lake St. Moritz at about 1,830 m. Behind the historic façade lie 163 rooms and suites, wood-panelled public rooms and Le Grand Hall, where afternoon tea is served to live piano music. The hotel opens for two seasons, winter and summer.

Across the street, the old Engadine house Chesa Veglia holds several of the hotel’s restaurants and a bar, while the contemporary Serlas Wing adds 25 rooms and suites finished in oak, natural stone and Loro Piana fabrics, with luxury boutiques on its ground floor. Palace Wellness with indoor and outdoor pools, the hotel’s own ice rink, a kids’ club, a wine cellar of some 30,000 bottles and a team that arranges mountain activities in winter and summer complete the picture.

Location

The hotel stands on Via Serlas in the centre of St. Moritz in the Upper Engadine, overlooking Lake St. Moritz, with the resort’s boutiques on its doorstep. Engadin Airport in Samedan, for private aircraft only, is 6 km away; Zurich Airport is 220 km (about 2.5 hours by car; the train from Zurich takes around 3.5 hours) and Milan about 180 km. Rolls-Royce transfers from St. Moritz railway station are available on request.

Spa

Palace Wellness pairs a 25-metre indoor infinity pool beside a granite rock, a heated outdoor pool and a Jacuzzi with saunas, aroma and salt steam rooms and hydrotherapy. The treatment menu covers massages, Ayurvedic therapies, manicures and facials by Dr. Burgener Switzerland and Biologique Recherche. Two private spa suites — Suite Veronica for couples, with a double Jacuzzi, steam room and double shower, and Suite Iris, with two treatment beds, a soft sauna and a private garden — sit alongside a yoga room, the Palace Coiffeur salon for women and men, and La Diala, a restaurant for light, balanced dishes.

Sports & leisure

The sports programme follows the seasons:

  • a fitness centre open around the clock, with Technogym equipment, personal trainers on request and classes including yoga and Pilates
  • in winter, the hotel’s own ice rink for skating, ice hockey and curling lessons, with skate hire
  • in summer, an ATP-standard tennis court and a padel court, with equipment hire and coaching
  • arranged by the hotel team in winter: cross-country skiing on 230 km of trails, snowkiting, curling, a bobsleigh ride with an experienced pilot on the Olympic bob run, tobogganing, skijoring, horse-drawn carriage rides from the front door, horse riding, snowshoeing, fat biking, paragliding and helicopter flights over the Engadine
  • in summer: sailing (including on the hotel’s own sailboat), stand-up paddling, windsurfing and kitesurfing on the Upper Engadine lakes, rafting, golf at the Engadin Golf Club, glacier hikes, climbing and walks straight from the hotel door
  • tours and tastings in the hotel’s wine cellar, home to some 30,000 bottles
For children

The Palazzino Kids Club takes children aged 3 to 12 for creative and educational programmes, supervised by trained staff throughout the day; younger children may join with an adult. Little ones can also try kids’ yoga and skating on the hotel rink, teenagers have their own games room, the Palace Arcade, and private ski lessons for children are arranged with the St. Moritz Ski School.

Restaurants & bars

In season, up to eleven restaurants and several bars operate in the hotel itself, in the historic Chesa Veglia across the street and on the mountain:

  • Le Grand Hall — the hotel’s grand hall with wide views: international dishes, light fare, cocktails and afternoon tea to live piano
  • Le Restaurant — breakfast buffet in a room with floor-to-ceiling windows facing the lake and mountains
  • Le Relais — dinner in a Belle Époque setting, with many dishes finished and served at the table and a window onto Lake St. Moritz
  • La Coupole-Matsuhisa — Japanese-Peruvian cuisine, a sushi bar and a cocktail bar beneath the glass dome of the former tennis hall
  • La Diala — a light, fresh menu inside Palace Wellness with mountain views, well suited to family meals
  • King’s Social House — bistro restaurant, bar and nightclub
  • Paradiso Mountain Club & Restaurant — mountain restaurant and bar on Corviglia with a sun terrace, Alpine classics, international dishes and a list of more than 500 wines
  • Pizzeria Heuboden — oven-baked pizza and Italian dishes in the former hayloft of Chesa Veglia
  • Patrizier Stuben — refined Swiss cuisine in an intimate chalet-style room
  • Grill Chadafö — grilled specialities in the historic rooms of Chesa Veglia
  • Carigiet Fondue Stübli — traditional Swiss fondue in a small, private room in Chesa Veglia

Swimming

Palace Wellness has a 25-metre indoor infinity pool, a heated outdoor pool used through the winter, and a Jacuzzi.

Skiing

In winter a complimentary hotel shuttle runs to the cable car, and the in-house Ski Service Corvatsch rental and shop supplies skis, helmets and ski wear daily. Private lessons for adults and children are arranged with the St. Moritz Ski School, and the hotel’s Paradiso Mountain Club & Restaurant sits on the Corviglia slopes.
