About this hotel
General information
AlpenGold Hotel Davos rises above Lake Davos at the foot of the Seehorn, on the site of the former Basel Sanatorium, a high-altitude clinic removed in 2007. Matteo Thun drew the first designs, which the Munich practice Oikios carried through; construction ran from 2011 to 2013 and the hotel opened in December 2013. Since May 2021 it has been managed by Michel Reybier Hospitality.
The oval main building takes its shape from a pine cone found in the surrounding forest, and its metal façade is made of 791 wave-shaped panels, no two alike. Inside the 216 rooms and suites, the Alpine theme is handled with restraint: wood, natural stone, clean lines and carefully considered light, with work by Swiss and international artists throughout. The hotel is known for its 1,200 m² Spa Nescens, six restaurants and bars, and a genuinely warm attitude to guests travelling with dogs.
Location
The hotel stands at Baslerstrasse 9 in Davos Dorf, above Lake Davos at the mouth of the Flüela valley, the route over to the Engadine. The nearest station is Davos Dorf: trains from Zurich run every half hour and take about 2 hours 15 minutes, changing at Landquart onto the Rhaetian Railway, and the hotel arranges a station transfer with 24 hours’ notice of arrival. By road, Zurich Airport is around 110 minutes away and Altenrhein, which also handles private aircraft, around 95 minutes; limousine transfers are available on request.
Spa
Spa Nescens covers 1,200 m², with a heated indoor-outdoor pool, separate wellness areas for men and women (each with sauna and steam bath), a shared sauna and a sanarium. There are fourteen treatment rooms, including two Spa Nescens suites for couples, and private Alpine Spa Suites with their own sauna, steam room and whirlpool. The menu centres on Nescens signature massages – better-aging and de-stressing – alongside Nescens cosmeceutical facials and day spa programmes. Spa access is included with every room category.
Sports & leisure
The spa has a 24-hour gym and a yoga room. On the lobby level, the Angerer sports shop hires out skis, snowboards and cross-country equipment and stocks sportswear and footwear. Around Davos there are 700 km of hiking trails, mountain-bike routes, the Davos golf club, sailing and windsurfing on Lake Davos, paragliding, the 2.8 km Schatzalp toboggan run and the 4,500 m² Eistraum ice rink. The concierge team helps arrange activities.
For children
The Kids’ Club takes children up to 12: in winter it is staffed, with a changing programme of painting, crafts and games, and in summer it opens on request; there is also a new Mini Club. Teenagers have the Sixteenhundred Teens Club lounge, with a 25-seat cinema, games consoles and a billiard table. A playground sits in front of the hotel and babysitting can be arranged. Under-16s may use the pool until 6 pm and the sauna only with an adult; the gym is for guests aged 16 and over.
Restaurants & bars
Six venues cover everything from a light lunch to a late cigar, some of them operating on a seasonal schedule.

- Sapori — classic Italian cooking around an open show kitchen
- Cheese Factory — fondue, raclette and fondue chinoise with a regional slant, and dinners beneath a glass dome

Swimming
The heated pool at Spa Nescens runs indoors and out; children under 16 may use it until 6 pm.
Skiing
The hotel is close to the Davos ski areas of Parsenn, Jakobshorn and Rinerhorn, all served by the town’s cable cars. Skis, snowboards and cross-country equipment can be hired at the in-house Angerer shop.
Pets
Dogs are warmly welcomed: the local partner Heidi Hunde Salon offers day sitting and grooming, and the concierge can suggest walks and the dog-friendly cross-country trails around Davos. Dogs are allowed in the Nuts & Co Lounge Bar but not in the other restaurants.
