The Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Madrid

About this hotel

General information

The Palace is one of Madrid's defining addresses: a grand corner building from 1912 facing the Neptune Fountain, at the heart of the Golden Triangle of Art and within the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Paseo del Prado and Buen Retiro. Its façade keeps the original sculptural niches and ornament, and the centrepiece inside is still the stained-glass dome under which Madrid society has gathered for more than a century.

Part of The Luxury Collection, the hotel has 470 rooms and suites, many of them looking onto the Neptune Fountain, Plaza de las Cortes and the Congress of Deputies. Art runs through the interiors, with paintings, wallcoverings and details drawing on Surrealism, theatre and music, while the suites carry tapestries inspired by the Retiro park. La Cúpula restaurant sits beneath the dome, the 27 Club cocktail bar is close by, and the event rooms hold up to 600 guests for a reception or 450 in conference style.

Location

The hotel stands at Plaza de las Cortes 7 in historic central Madrid, opposite the Neptune Fountain and the Congress of Deputies, on the edge of the literary Barrio de las Letras. The Prado, the Thyssen-Bornemisza and the Reina Sofía museums are a short walk away, as are the Retiro park and the Royal Botanical Garden. Banco de España is the nearest metro station and Atocha railway station is close by. Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport is about 13 km away; the hotel runs no shuttle, and there is on-site parking.

Spa

There is no full spa, but the fitness centre has a recovery area with a sauna and a solarium terrace, open around the clock and reserved for hotel guests.

Sports & leisure
  • A 24-hour fitness centre of 115 m², naturally lit, with cardio machines, strength equipment and free weights, accessed by guest keycard
  • Sauna and solarium terrace for rest after a workout
  • Walking, running and boating in the Retiro park, within walking distance
  • Personal shopping at the hotel, with the concierge on hand for the city's designer streets
  • Concierge-arranged tours: a Madrid city tour and day trips to Toledo and Segovia
For children

The hotel's site lists no kids' club. A cot or an extra bed can be added in every category except the Deluxe Guest room: one in the rooms and up to two in the suites. The concierge can suggest family outings around the city.

Restaurants & bars

Dining centres on the dome: La Cúpula Restaurant & Bar serves from breakfast onwards, with international cooking in which executive chef Nuno Matos leans on regional produce and classic Madrid recipes. Its circular bar beneath the stained glass pours signature cocktails alongside tapas and a list of more than 300 wines, from celebrated estates to emerging names, and every Sunday afternoon it hosts Opera & Brunch with live opera. The intimate 27 Club is known for accomplished mixology, its dry martini and a collection of artworks and heritage pieces from the hotel's past. In-room dining runs around the clock.

Pets

Dogs and cats up to 20 kg are welcome, one per room, for a one-off fee per stay. Service animals stay free of charge and without documentation.
