About this hotel
General information
Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona occupies a former bank on Passeig de Gràcia, at the heart of the Golden Square and a short stroll from Gaudí's modernist landmarks. Behind the historic frontage the building was reimagined by Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola with architects Carlos Ferrater and Juan Trias de Bes, so restrained modernism meets quiet Oriental touches throughout.
There are 98 rooms and 28 suites, and tucked into the block is Mimosa Garden, a secluded patch of Mediterranean greenery where the city seems to fall away. Dining centres on the Catalan cooking of Moments, the rooftop terrace Terrat with its pool comes alive in the warmer months, and the spa, with a 12-metre pool, is open to city guests too. The hotel suits business trips and slow explorations of Barcelona equally well.
Location
The address is Passeig de Gràcia 38–40 in Eixample. On foot it is about 2 minutes to Casa Batlló, 8 to Casa Milà, 7 to Plaça de Catalunya, 12–15 to La Rambla and around 25 to the Gothic Quarter; by car roughly 10 minutes to the Sagrada Família, 15 to Barceloneta beach and 15–20 to Park Güell. Barcelona–El Prat Airport is 20–30 minutes away by taxi or private transfer, depending on traffic, and the hotel arranges transfers on request in advance. Guests arriving by car have free, secure self-parking.
Spa
The Spa has eight treatment rooms, two of them couples' suites, plus the Oriental Spa Suite, a 12-metre indoor pool, steam room, relaxation area and beauty room. Treatments range from massage and skincare to LPG endermologie and Chinese tea rituals, alongside one- and two-day wellness retreats built around mindfulness sessions and healthy food. A separate HairSpa by Miriam Quevedo is devoted to scalp and hair rejuvenation.
Sports & leisure
The Technogym-equipped fitness centre is open around the clock and offers Pilates, boxing and functional training classes as well as nutrition and lifestyle coaching. The indoor spa pool is open from 8am to 8pm, and in the warmer months guests head up to the rooftop pool. The concierge team plans city outings and books experiences, family ones included.
For children
There is no kids' club, but families are well looked after: a movie night with popcorn and sweets for children from 3, a tipi tent in the room for ages 3–8, birthday cakes, board games and dedicated children's amenities. Blanc and Terrat have children's menus, the rooftop dipping pool suits younger guests, and the spa offers gentle treatments for children and teens. Family experiences include the Art of Trencadís workshop and A Sweet Adventure for Kids. The hotel recommends the Family Suite, Grand Suite and Penthouse Suite for families; Moments welcomes children from the age of 5.
Restaurants & bars
The restaurants and bars span signature Catalan cooking, all-day dining and seasonal terraces:
- Moments — fine dining by chefs Carme Ruscalleda and Raül Balam: a contemporary take on Catalan cuisine built on seasonal produce, in a Patricia Urquiola room with a window onto the kitchen, with wine and alcohol-free pairings for the tasting menu
- Blanc — all-day restaurant beneath a glass atrium: Mediterranean cooking from breakfast to dinner, with seafood, grilled meats and rice dishes, and brunch on Sundays
- Mimosa Garden — garden terrace serving cocktails, spritzes, wines and light seasonal bites from afternoon into evening
- Terrat — seasonal rooftop restaurant and bar overlooking Passeig de Gràcia: Mediterranean sharing plates, caviar, oysters and cocktails
- Banker's Bar — cocktails and light snacks
- In-Room Dining — available 24 hours
Swimming
There is no beach at the hotel: guests swim in the temperature-controlled 12-metre indoor spa pool and, in the warmer season, in the small open-air rooftop pool at Terrat with views over the city.
