General information
The Ritz-Carlton Tenerife, Abama spreads across a 160-hectare estate on the south-west coast of Tenerife, in the municipality of Guía de Isora. Botanical gardens fall away from a clifftop towards the Atlantic, with the volcanic outline of Mount Teide behind. At the centre stands the terracotta Citadel, a Moorish-inspired hub of shops, restaurants, evening music and events; set apart on the hillside among subtropical planting is The Retreat, a quieter enclave of four lanes of two-storey casitas for couples and families.
In all there are 459 rooms, suites and penthouses. Interiors take their cue from the Guanches, the island's original people, with natural textures, volcanic references, blues in the Citadel and earthy tones in The Retreat. The resort is known as one of Europe's serious dining destinations, from the haute cuisine of M.B to farm-to-table Verde Mar, and it pairs a 2,500 m² spa and fitness centre with the Ritz Kids club and a dedicated guest area on Abama Beach. It holds Biosphere certification and works with Innoceana to restore seagrass meadows off the coast.
Location
The address is Calle María Zambrano 2, at kilometre 9 of the TF-47 road in Guía de Isora, south-west Tenerife, looking across the water to the island of La Gomera. Tenerife Sur airport is about 30 km away and Tenerife Norte about 85 km; the hotel arranges transfers from both on request. Abama Golf lies 1.4 km from the resort.
Spa
The Ritz-Carlton Spa shares 2,500 m² with the fitness centre and has single and couples' treatment rooms. Its water circuit draws on Roman bathing: a Turkish hammam and an herbal steam room scented with essential oils, a sauna, a World of Showers with tropical rain, lateral jets and a cold Finnish shower, an ice cabin, a Kneipp walk over volcanic stone, a hydrotherapy pool and a cold plunge pool. Hotel guests may use the water area without booking a treatment, for a fee. The signature Earth, Wind and Fire ritual combines a volcanic-sand exfoliation with a heated lava-stone massage; the menu also covers massages, including for couples, facials, body scrubs and wraps, manicures and pedicures. Treatments are for guests aged 18 and over; the beauty salon serves all ages.
Sports & leisure
The fitness centre is open around the clock to guests aged 16 and over, with cardio and strength machines, free weights and rowers, plus spinning sessions on an outdoor terrace at set times. Jogging and walking trails wind through the botanical gardens, and The Retreat holds yoga, Pilates and mindful garden walks. Tennis courts and the 18-hole Abama Golf championship course, with views of the ocean and La Gomera, lie close by; both are run independently and booked through the concierge, and the island has six more 18-hole courses. The resort's daily programme includes watercolour workshops, painting bags, caps and birdhouses, and quiet time by the koi ponds, alongside table tennis and a games room. Beyond the resort, local partners offer guided hikes up Teide, boat trips to La Gomera, whale and dolphin watching, jeep tours, helicopter flights and paragliding.
For children
Ritz Kids welcomes children aged 4 to 12 with a daily programme built around culture, nature, exploration and responsibility, from arts and crafts and workshops to karaoke; at set times children can be left in the care of the team, with sessions booked at least 24 hours ahead. Families with younger children have the Ritz Kids Garden and a planetarium, most restaurants offer children's menus, family rooms come with children's amenities on request, and The Retreat has its own family pools. The hotel does not run a babysitting service but provides a list of external agencies.

Ten venues run from tasting menus to lunch on the sand:
- M.B — signature haute cuisine drawing on memory and the flavours of the Canary Islands, led by chef Erlantz Gorostiza to Martín Berasategui's vision
- Akira Back Tenerife — chef Akira Back's contemporary Japanese cooking, looking out over the Atlantic
- Txoko — Martín Berasategui's modern take on Basque cuisine, lighter at lunch and centred on prime cuts in the evening
- Verde Mar — seasonal farm-to-table cooking with local vegetables, meat and fish
- Verona — Italian classics given a contemporary touch
- El Mirador — seafood, fresh fish and Mediterranean rice dishes on a clifftop with sweeping ocean views
- La Veranda — breakfast buffet in the Citadel, overlooking the Serenity Pool and the golf course
- The Beach Club — fresh fish, grilled dishes and cocktails on Abama Beach, facing La Gomera
- Lobby Bar — classic and signature cocktails, a terrace and live music on selected evenings
- Deli Cafe — sandwiches, cakes, sweets and smoothies through the day
In-room dining runs 24 hours. Guests of The Retreat are served drinks and light bites throughout the day, ocean-view breakfasts, afternoon treats and sunset cocktails.
Swimming
Pools are scattered across the resort, each with loungers, umbrellas, towels and attendant service. The Lagoon Pool at the heart of the Citadel is the largest, with its own menu; the Serenity Pool, set in gardens overlooking the golf course, is for guests aged 13 and over; the Persian Garden Pool sits among the pink architecture with views over Abama Bay. The Retreat adds four more pools, for adults and for families, including the infinity pool of the Retreat Exclusive Area. The resort's own small train runs down to Abama Beach, a public stretch of golden sand with two natural pools, a pier and a breakwater, where guests have a complimentary area of loungers and umbrellas, subject to availability.
Pets
Pets are not allowed; service animals are welcome free of charge.
Rooms
The 459 rooms, suites and penthouses are spread across three areas: the lively Citadel, the calm Retreat with its own pools, exclusive area and adults-only zones, and a collection of penthouses on the Citadel's upper floors. Retreat and penthouse guests receive the Retreat Experiences benefits, including pressing of two garments per stay.
