General information
JOIA El Mirador by Iberostar is an adults-only hotel on the seafront promenade of Costa Adeje, in the stretch known as the Golden Mile, right beside Playa del Duque. Its architecture follows the traditional building style of the Canary Islands, while the interiors lean towards the romantic, with carefully worked details throughout. Every room is a junior suite or suite, and nearly all categories face the Atlantic.
Within the hotel lies La Balconada, the Star Prestige area, with its own pool, sun terrace and bar, butler service, personalised check-in and evening turndown. Stays are on a bed-and-breakfast or half-board basis, with three restaurants to choose from, and the SPA Sensations, covering more than 1,000 m², rounds out the offer. The hotel runs on renewable electricity, has done away with single-use plastic, favours responsibly sourced fish and seafood and serves plant-based dishes.
Location
The hotel stands directly on the seafront promenade of Costa Adeje, in the municipality of Adeje in south-west Tenerife, on Avenida de Bruselas. Playa del Duque is a three-minute walk away, El Veril beach about 1 km, and the black volcanic sand of La Enramada beach roughly fifteen minutes on foot; golf courses lie close by.
Spa
SPA Sensations covers more than 1,000 m² and is lit by natural daylight. Its thermal circuit takes in a hydrodynamic pool, a whirlpool bath, showers, a cold-water plunge pool and a steam room. Therapists offer massages and rituals, body treatments and facials, tailor-made aesthetic treatments and underwater massage, which pairs thermal water with hands-on work. Star Prestige guests have one thermal circuit session included per stay.
Sports & leisure
Fit & Fun, the fitness centre, looks out over the Atlantic and is equipped with treadmills, ellipticals, exercise bikes, rowing machines, Pilates equipment and an abs bench. There is a squash court built to international specifications, and water sports can be arranged for a fee. Several golf courses lie near Costa Adeje, and the hotel takes care of tee-time bookings, equipment and group arrangements.
Restaurants & bars
Three restaurants and two bars range from Canarian cooking to Mediterranean plates and easy poolside snacks:
- El Mirador — buffet of Spanish and international dishes with Canarian touches, live-cooking stations and the option of an à la carte main course
- El Cenador — gourmet restaurant devoted to the traditions and flavours of the Canary Islands, with tasting menus paired with local wines; reservation required
- La Pérgola — Mediterranean à la carte restaurant with a sea-view terrace, open for lunch and dinner: tapas, fresh local fish, rice dishes and meat, on a menu that changes with the seasons
- La Tosca — cocktail bar by the heated pool, with live music in the evening
- Las Pardelas Snack Bar — poolside bar for smoothies and snacks
Star Prestige guests also have their own bar in La Balconada serving drinks and snacks. Dinner in the restaurants calls for formal dress, with long trousers for men.
Swimming
The hotel sits on the beachfront promenade, three minutes on foot from the sandy Playa del Duque. On site there is a heated outdoor pool and a heated outdoor whirlpool, while La Balconada has a separate pool and sun terrace reserved for Star Prestige guests.
Rooms
Accommodation consists entirely of junior suites and suites in ten categories, nearly all with sea views. Four categories belong to the Star Prestige area of La Balconada, with butler service, personalised check-in, late check-out when available and evening turndown; the two-bedroom suite also has access to the area.
Every room has a living area with a sofa, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, a smart TV, tea and coffee facilities, a minibar, a safe, a hairdryer, bathrobes and slippers, and is non-smoking.
