About this hotel
General information
Hotel Botánico & The Oriental Spa Garden sits in Puerto de la Cruz on Tenerife’s north coast, surrounded by some 25,000 m² of subtropical gardens. More than 200 species of plants and trees grow here, alongside a bonsai corner, and the terraces look out over the Orotava Valley, Mount Teide and the Atlantic. The 212 rooms and suites include a wing reserved for adults, while the penthouses occupy a fifth floor with restricted access.
The lobby lies beneath a glass roof on a steel frame, where a sculptural chandelier of more than 800 glass leaves hangs above an amethyst druze, and a private collection of contemporary Canarian and Spanish art runs through the public spaces. The Oriental Spa Garden has a tropical garden of its own; there is also a library with a reading room and billiards, four restaurants and a bar. The hotel is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World.
Location
The hotel stands on Avenida Richard J. Yeoward in a quiet part of Puerto de la Cruz, in the north of Tenerife. Playa Martiánez is about 700 m away, the town’s seafront promenades are within walking distance, and a free hotel minibus runs to the centre of Puerto de la Cruz. Transfers are arranged on request with at least 48 hours’ notice.
Spa
The Oriental Spa Garden fills a 3,500 m² tropical garden and takes its mood from Eastern traditions of body care. The outdoor thermal circuit has two open-air pools with hydromassage jets and heated water beds set among the greenery; indoors there is a heated pool, a jacuzzi, a laconium, a Japanese sauna, an aromatherapy room scented with lavender, rose and hibiscus, a hammam and an ice room. The spa pools are kept at up to 26 °C all year. Treatments include massages with gold and rose oils and volcanic stones, rituals drawing on Asian and Ayurvedic traditions, tailored programmes, facials, hairdressing, make-up, manicures and pedicures. A team of nearly thirty therapists works here, and the spa is open to guests aged 16 and over.
Sports & leisure
There is a gym with modern equipment and Botánico Sport classes led by instructors, covering functional training, balance and flexibility. The gardens hold two outdoor tennis courts and an 18-hole pitch and putt course of 5,000 m² with a bunker and a driving range, and there is table tennis and billiards too. The hotel has dedicated services for cyclists, takes golfers and their equipment to courses across the island, and arranges kayaking, zip-line rides and hikes on the slopes of Teide for families.
For children
During school holidays the Miniclub runs a programme of nature and ecology, creative play, games for the five senses and exercise (reception confirms the schedule). Themed days add a pirate day with a treasure map, costumes and a chest, and a fun day with bowling, crafts, dancing and a cinema session with popcorn; at Easter, Christmas and Halloween there are magic shows, a visit from Santa, egg hunts and cooking workshops. There is a children’s pool, and a babysitter can be arranged on request.
Restaurants & bars
There are four restaurants and a bar; gentlemen are asked to wear long trousers at dinner, and every restaurant has a children’s menu.
- The Oriental — Asian cuisine from a Thai kitchen team, served at dinner in a room framed by golden statues at the entrance
- La Parrilla — Spanish cooking with meat, poultry and fish from the day’s auction, plus herbs and vegetables from the hotel’s own garden; dinner only
- Il Pappagallo — Italian and Mediterranean dishes with handmade pasta; dinner on the rooftop with views of the sea and Puerto de la Cruz
- Palmera Real — a relaxed poolside restaurant in the shade of palm trees, for breakfast and lunch
- Bar Hall — coffee, cocktails and live music from morning until late, with garden views and Canarian art on the walls
Swimming
The hotel’s pools hold heated fresh water: the main Palmera Real pool among the palms stays at 26 °C all year, with a children’s pool alongside. The pools of The Oriental Spa Garden and its thermal circuit are for guests aged 16 and over. The nearest beach, Playa Martiánez, is about 700 m from the hotel.
Pets
Dogs of up to 8 kg are welcome in the Deluxe Teide view rooms and the Ambassador Jr. Suites. Each dog receives a set with a bed, a toy and bowls, and breakfast can be served on the balcony. Dogs are not allowed in the Palmera Real pool area or the spa.
Rooms
The 212 rooms and suites have balconies or terraces facing the gardens, the Atlantic or Teide. The Superior Deluxe rooms and Ambassador Superior Suites sit in an adults-only wing, and the penthouses occupy a fifth floor with restricted access.
Every room has air conditioning, a minibar, a safe, a Nespresso machine with capsules, a kettle, water, coffee and tea replenished daily, a Samsung TV with Chromecast and daily spa access for guests aged 16 and over.
